How to Enable cPanel Password Reset in WHM

December 22, 2023 / cPanel & WHM

This article explains how to enable the cPanel password reset feature in WHM. This option allows individual cPanel users to reset their own passwords without logging in to cPanel, which is especially useful if a user forgets their password.

Purpose of Enabling cPanel Password Reset:
The primary purpose of this feature is to:

  • Allow users to regain access to their cPanel accounts independently.
  • Reduce administrator intervention for password reset requests.
  • Improve account accessibility while maintaining controlled access.

Security Impact and Considerations
Enabling cPanel password reset does not weaken server security when properly configured. Password resets are processed using:

  • The email address associated with the cPanel account.
  • Verification links are sent by the system to confirm the request.

To maintain security, ensure that:

  • Each cPanel account has a valid and secure email address.
  • Users follow strong password policies.
  • Administrators monitor password reset activity if required.

Follow the steps:

  1. Log in to WHM.
  2. Select the “Server Configuration” option and click on the “Tweak Settings” sub-option.
    Tweak Settings
  3. On this page, type “Reset Password for cPanel accounts” in the “Find” box provided.
