How to restart Apache to make Httpd.Conf changes permanent

December 27, 2023 / How-to Guide

This article explains how to restart Apache to make Httpd.Conf changes permanent.

When cPanel undergoes an update or the Httpd service is restarted via WHM, the modifications made directly to the Apache configuration file may not take effect.
This is because cPanel references the new values in the file /var/cpanel/conf/apache/local.

Nevertheless, you can persist with making adjustments directly in the Apache configuration and then execute the following distiller commands to ensure the changes are saved.

In order to make the changes permanent and make sure the changes are not overwritten on the next cPanel update / WHM restart, execute the following commands-

# /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller –update –main

# /usr/local/cpanel/bin/build_apache_conf

# /scripts/restartsrv httpd

In this manner, you can restart Apache to make Httpd.Conf changes permanent. If you encounter any problem, seek help from our support staff. They are available 24X7.
