How to enable Apache mod_userdir module

This guide outlines the steps to enable mod_userdir access. The Apache mod_userdir module permits visitors to access a user’s website using a URL containing the user’s username. This module serves as a temporary URL system on most servers, enabling users to view their websites even if DNS is not configured or the domain is not yet pointing to the server.

It is important to note that enabling the Apache mod_userdir module allows any virtual host to access any website sharing the same IP address, irrespective of the hostname.

Follow the steps-

1. Check the “Enable mod_userdir Protection” option.
2. To enable mod_userdir for specific hosts, select the appropriate “Exclude Protection” checkboxes.
   Note- Enabling this grants all users access to content via Apache’s mod_userdir module, so it is advised to restrict it to DefaultHost.
3. To restrict mod_userdir access to specific additional users for these hosts, input their usernames in the “Additional Users” field.
   1. This feature allows resellers to grant their customers access to their websites before DNS propagation.
   2. Separate multiple users by spaces.
4. Save your settings.
