A web user works on multiple scripts to enhance the functionality. Many scripts which use the function with the script need to be called from the parent paths. If a user is running one of those scripts and finds entries like – “‘ASP 0131’ Disallowed Parent Path” after checking the logs, then you will have to enable the use of parent paths for your domain.

If you wish to workout your application on any sort of directory structure then you will require parent path enabled for your domain on your web server. This will allow you to use “..” while browsing directories of your domain. You will need to enable it explicitly as Parent Path will not be enabled by default in IIS. This feature is not enabled by default however it is easy enough to enable.

You will have to follow the steps mentioned below to enable parent path in IIS:

1. Login into your Plesk Panel.
2. Just have to click on Home on the left menu.
3. A you can see your domain name just click on it.
4. Go with in the directory tab, and then click Configuration.
5. In IIS Manager, right click on domain name and then click Properties.
6. Click on preferences or then click the Options tab.
7. In the Application configuration section, select the Enable parent paths check box.
8. Check the check box to Enable Parent Paths.
9. Click OK and you are done.
