How to restart a VPS or dedicated server using WHM

The VPS/Dedicated servers are the best and class-one in terms of performance. You can restart it when you need to install and configure the software. The restarting process of a dedicated server is explained in this article.

Note- It is suggested not to restart your server frequently. As it may cause other issues.

Follow the steps:

  1. Log in to WHM.
    Login to WHM
  2. Search for the “System Reboot” option from the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. You will find two options under it- “Forceful Server Reboot” and “Graceful Server Reboot”.

  4. Forceful Server Reboot
    This option should be used only in critical situations, such as:

    • Server unresponsiveness.

    • Hardware or kernel-level issues.

    • Security incidents (e.g., suspected intrusion or attack).

    Possible issues caused by a forceful reboot:

    • Running processes are terminated immediately.

    • Open files or databases may become corrupted.

    • Services may fail to restart properly after a reboot.

  5. Graceful Server Reboot (Recommended)
    This option allows active processes and services to shut down safely before restarting the server. Although it may take longer, it helps prevent data corruption and service failures.

  6. Select the appropriate reboot option based on your requirement and click Proceed.
