Right, a managed server makes more sense. The time you invest in managing your server can be invested in the growth of your business.
Let the webhosting provider do these server management tasks, you don't need to worry about anything if its a managed server.

Installing cpanel or any other application would be piece of cake if you know shell commands and have basic scripting/linux commands knowledge else let your webhost do it for you. Your webhost should not charge anything for installation of cpanel provided you have license for it.
