  • Protecting Web Space from External threats

I wanted to ask is there any way that I can protect my webspace from threats or can I setup any rules or command and how do I protect my website/webspace from content ripping ?

    Hello,
Certainly you can set the rules under your .htaccess file to protect your web-space.
Certain host may not provide you with privileges to write .htaccess. How ever Webhosting UK supports .htaccess and allows you to modify with your custom rules.

you can try following code under your .htaccess file.

    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Anarchie [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^ASPSeek [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^attach [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^autoemailspider [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Xaldon\ WebSpider [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Xenu [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Zeus.*Webster [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Zeus
    RewriteRule ^.* – [F,L]

These are generalized rules, you can add custom rules if you know the attacker.
    Warm Regards,

As far as I am aware there is no such thing in place to get rid of content theft. You can always keep an eye on the content that is being stolen and send an email to the culprit as to remove the content.

You can always setup Google alerts or there are many plugins out there that help you top prevent your content from getting stolen. One such plugin is "WP Content Copy Protection" which helps from content theft.

Still I think if the content needs to get stolen then the culprit will always steal it. Best bet is to report it to Google.

My thoughts exactly but I also get angry when my competitor is ranking above my website as the efforts have been taken by me

The max you can do is to report the culprit but the thing is how long are they even going to sustain at the top?

I know but still for that period he is dominating the serps above me and I do not want someone stealing my content to rank above my site and make the most out of it.

I too have been through the same situation like yours and I know how it feels to have a competitor ranking above your site with no efforts as such.

Any specific tools that effectively help in removal of stolen content?

No such tools that I know of but you can always report to Google. Still waiting for Google to provide an update on how they can stop people from stealing other people's content.
