I used Norton Anti-Virus 2006 on my old PC.
A word of advise to everyone, it just slows down your pc and it doesn't find half the viruses stored and infected in your computer.

It would normally take me (on a estimated time) 20 mins to load up my computer and if I did do anything before Norton had completely loaded (The tick in the little taskbar Norton item) it would just freeze and I would have to restart.

Before I had Norton it was unbelievably fast (well comparing it to before), It would take me roughly 3-5 mins to load up and when it had loaded up it was fast and never lagged when I was running loads of programs. I used McAfee at the time.

Then I got a new pc, and it had McAfee 2007 installed on it and one word for it.

      Beasty.

It has to be one of the best Anti-Virus programs out there.
But I didn't no about it including a virus...

I recommend McAfee to anybody with Norton, it is an excellent program. It costs money, but it's worth it

Sorry to resurrect an old post but mcafee has just shafted me. I still have 2 months to run on my subscription but am getting a pop up saying it has expired. I have just spent an hour 'talking' to their chat with both customer services and tech support only to be told they can't find my account. I am hopping mad and in a fit of rage delete mcafee from my computer.

So I am on the lookout for another one and liked the sound of AVG but couldn't find anything about the free version (just a trial version) on their website - am i missing something or have they got too big to offer it free any more?

heh... they do make it a bit hard to find. http://free.grisoft.com/ is what you want

                However...
version 7.5 was great for me but I recently upgraded to version 8 and I've yet to perform a complete scan. It's still at it after 6 hours and often crashes. I'm looking for a version of 7.5 to go back.

It has very clean look, I downloaded and scanned my PC successfully but not sure the free version 8 will remain free because they mentioned it is on a trial basis.

Norton Anti Virus (NAV) eats upto 40% CPU resources on your PC. Its hard to update NAV and it is frustrating to unistall the application from your computer when you wish to do so.
Its a popular belief that If You Value your Computer's Performance and You're Over 10, you shoud Delete NAV from your PC.
