I was supposing to find C at the first place the JAVA then C# then PHP but it seems not
C is holding its classical place after tens of years because the base of OS,Network,Administration's Application,Kernels and emmebeded OSes too, JAVA is taking the first place because the less complexity and the its frameworks what makes the Mobile-Phone and Satellite's Industry move to it, but who knows who'll last at the end?

I don't know at what position C language is, but for me it is at top.
As a programmer you should know this language first as this will help you to understand programming concepts.
IMO Java has taken it’s grip in webdevelopment, today most sites are based on AJAX and here comes the major role of JAVA in it’s development.

Yeah , that's true AJAX is invading the whole web, before it was the shot for the open CMSes to rule the web and now is getting inside them and inside the other close web solutions, so JAVA will take place especially on the web as you mentioned and on mobile technologies but always we need the platform to manage our servers and services and here it comes the LOVELY C.

As a result each language has its place and time and I wish to see a merged language like what happened in C# between the concept of C/C++/Delphi&pascal , i like to see Java/ANSI C/PHP/PERL

In fact PHP now can be emmebeded into a lot of other compiled languages and it can be compiled it self using the GOOGLE SUMMER awarded MONO compiler or some other comerial versions.

You have to be careful with the Tiobe index because it isn't based on how manuy projects are being developed using a different language.

Java has absolutely nothing to do with AJAX. Javascript is a core component but Javascript has nothing to do with Java.

PHPs popularity is declining because hobby programmers and some Web development is being shifted to Ruby. Unfortunately it will probably continue to decline.

If you're interested in Web dev you tend to get a distorted view of languages popularity. Many programmers would only consider PHP to just barely qualify as a 'serious' language while C, C++ and Java are kings of the hill. IMHO, D is a language to watch out for and for Web dev I'd think about learning the Flex platform (with ActionScript 3) and maybe Ruby for the backend with Java if your doing some heavy duty stuff.

I haven't used Ruby and I don't think I will.
But can you stat why they are switching to Ruby ? I didn't know something like that is happening, may be because I've taken a small vacation, really I took a 15 days just to surf and write in forum nothing else

Not sure I can - it's kind of trendy and there are all sorts of claims made for it. Supposedly it integrates better with some other platforms - particularly Java - but I don't know how much of that is true.

I think the future is bright for PHP. PHP 5 is a very nice oop language, combine that with the release of the Zend Framework when it is finished and you have a very solid platform for web applications.

It's not fully object oriented although it is a big improvement on 4. I'm still not convinced but it's really not worth getting too attached to one language. Use whatever feels right for the job (or what your told to use ).

Yeah Kev, we shouldn't depend only on one language but we need to discover that through our daily needs, i can't just sit and think what language should I start learning to use it but I should sit and think what I do need to improve my scriptes quality.

bad sectors are developed in idle brains only. people who work hard never face any problem with their brain nor any kind of heart problems as they don't use much of their heart due to work

u've got good information from some of the geeks on our forum so get started with Ruby or Flex or Java as this seem to be very popular right now and you have an option to get into some big development firm if you learn this languages.
