  • Unable to reset SQL password

    Hello,

I wonder why I cannot change the SQL password.

    Got this error :

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    ------------------------------

Alter failed for Login 'sa'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

    ------------------------------

Cannot set a credential for principal 'sa'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15535)

    Thanks

    Hi,

In general circumstances the fix for the error is the option "Map to Credential" is checked in the "General" tab of the Login Properties Page.

Which authentification mode is your SQL Server running? Also note that you need to have sysadmin or security admin premission to change the "SA" user password.

Further, are you trying to reset the Sa password remotely ?
