    Advantages:

    1. To stay up-to-date with new technologies.
    2. To increase search engine friendliness.
    3. To reduces the cost.
    4. To communicate in a better way with your customers using web2.0 standards.
    5. To make your website load fast.
    6. To make your website more appealing and easy navigation system.
    7. To gain more visitors and increase sales.
    8. To make the website more visually appealing with latest graphical technologies.
    9. To compatible for latest browsers like Firefox, IE, Safari and Google Chrome.
    10. To have better accessibility in all screen resolutions.

    Disadvantages:

Less control over the look and feel of the site. Standard website templates can be modified but within reasonable limits. Very often there are areas, which can't be changed i.e. there is a header and it can't be removed, or the menu on the left can't be deleted, etc. Such cases are rare but they do happen.

I think it is important to have a user friendly site with clear information on the site. If the visitors find that they are easily able to access your website, it generates a confidence in them and they are more likely to visit your website.

In my opinion the most important benefit of redesigning is that your website pages will get more attractive and catchy for the visitors; and thus they would want to stay on your website for a longer period of time. If you have created a good user friendly and impressive website, then it will surely attract more of prospective customer traffic with redesigning.

In my opinion by redesigning your website will give a new look and feel which will be most important aspect of online presence. The website will defiantly look more attractive for the visitors who usually use to come on your website as well as those who are going to come recently. However, if the design is much better or attractive than the previous one, your visitors will stay on your website for much longer period of time.

If your website has been up for a long span of time with the same features, then you must consider redesigning it. I am sure your visitors and customers will be so fascinated with it. If the redesigned website is highly attractive, then most of the people will visit for the only purpose of viewing it and they may turn into your prospective customers.
