Link Building or Content?

Hi people.

I am new here and trying to figure out SEO.

Which is more important...content or link building. I know both are, BUT if a site had one or the other, which would rank better overall.

If I had 5 million incoming links or 5 million words of content?

Obviously, this is an extreme case, but you get the idea.

I think "5 million incoming links", If you have a site with "5 million words of content", and if this site has no incoming links will have pr 0 all time, and if a site has 10 words and 5 good incoming links will have pr1 or 2

I'll prefer to have more backlinks than content. Google knows how difficult it is to get quality backlinks.

Google gives more importance to good quality backlinks. Unique content is important as well. If you have good unique content and quality backlinks you have a better chance to rank well in Google

Even though backlinks are more important, you also need to have good quality content to be able to gain more backlinks. So I would say both have their own importance.

In my experience even you write great content and there are no voting for that page that will have no value, predominantely backlink represents a favorable 'editorial vote' for the receiving pages from another pages which are relevant and believed to be have strong influence granting that specific page is valuable.

hi there, Susan here, well i think to get traffic to your web site your keywords should rank higher in search engine results, so you need to choose great keywords along with maintaining 5-7 % density in your cntent, have a look at your cmpetetrs keywords & so on. You ind a good keyword research tool on the net first.

According to me, content and backlinks go hand in hand. Both are important. However, I have noticed one thing which I think is really important. If you have good content for your website you will get backlinks automatically. I mean, if the content of your website is good, you will not have to struggle for backlinks. I have seen websites getting quality backlinks only because the content of the website was good.

Yes, I agree with Caroline. It's very important to manage the contents of your website. If they can provide good contents then definitely your website would get good ranking as you don't need to struggle for backlinks.

Write in a clear conforming style. eg use css.

I have found that Bookmark websites help for backlinks and Twitter embedded into your website using a PHP script can also help with the constant flow of relative content changes
