  • website related to books

I love to read and would like to have a website business that is related to books. The subject of books covers too wide a spectrum, though, and I feel I should have something of a niche. Any ideas?

Choose what you like to read. If you like mysteries, biographies, science fiction, or some other genre, that could be your focus. Choosing something you like personally helps motivate you to work on your site. Your interest will come through in what you write.

Amazon has an affiliate program and they sell a lot of books. A review of the book is one option, or you could write some content on the same topic as the book. Then, you could link to the book as a related subject. In other words, to find out more, go here and buy this book.

Before you join Amazon's affiliate program, look into the cookie tracking. I haven't checked recently, but in the past Amazon only gave you a short period of time from the time the visitor clicks your affiliate link to the time the sale must be made. Affiliate tracking and the length of the cookie are as important as the products themselves.

I read that Amazon's affiliate program has one day cookie tracking only, which is pretty short compared to Webhosting UK's affiliate program which has 150 day cookie tracking.

You may want to set up a site that gives tips and techniques in book writing. Then include your affiliate URLs; in the site.

This just shows what a vast difference there exists between affiliate programs. Amazon apparently thinks you should get crumbs as far as cookie tracking is concerned simply because they're Amazon. With great affiliate programs like Webhosting UK, Amazon had better step up or one of these days it won't be Amazon anymore.

These are some great ideas and I'm glad to know about Amazon's policy. If I use them, I don't think I'll count on anything extravagant as far as earnings go. For content, the writing tips could be added to whatever I decide for a book niche. I may start with one genre since a smaller content target is most often recommended.
