Earning Through Donations

There are educational websites I've visited where there are no ads in their website. It is clean and very informative. They have the option for donations for the members to give their thanks. Do you think donations will be a good way to get income from the internet if for example I have a website that is really helpful?

I've seen this one before and I guess Wikipedia reached its goal.

The thing with donations is that you must add new information to your website so that returning visitors will be please and will become more willing to donate.

There is nothing wrong to accept donation on your website, but the revenue will be less predictable and reliable than it is of advertisements or other ways of monetizing your website.
