I've seen this issue discussed on a web developing blog the other day: manual submission vs submission software. Which do you think is better: using programs (Hotkeycontrol, Digixmas and other similar ones) to submit your links to directories, or submitting the links yourself, one by one (manually)? Does manual submission offer better results?

Manual submissions are always preferred in comparison to submissions with these kind of applications and the reason for this is the fact that these applications are firstly not reliable enough and the other reason is the cost they involve (if any). If submissions are done manually, one can select the categories properly and submissions can be beneficial which is very difficult with these sort of applications.

Manual submission is the only method I feel comfortable using. Google's search engine experts recommend manual submission. Also, with manual submission, you can rest assured that your site was actually submitted. The automated process could have some errors.

I also favor the manual submissions as it makes customization possible. The description of the blog can be done in a better way and it can be submitted into the appropriate categories through manual submissions. Manual submission gives the best exposure to any website.

For me, there is no question that manual submission is the only reliable method of submitting your website to directories. I would also have qualms about my automated submissions being viewed as possible spam. Regardless of the time involved, it is worth it.

I agree. Manual submission is the best way of submissions. Manual submission enables you to add the proper directories, add the appropriate description and manage all the other details according to your preference; this would not be possible in automatic submission.

Most of the submissions done by software's are unsuccessful and even if they are submitted, the chance of acceptance is reduced as the webmaster can understand whether it has been submitted manually or with the help of a software. Hence, it does not make sense to submit links using a software.

Manual submission is better in eery way. First of all you will have to clear the captcha code, submission would not be possible without clearing that. Moreover you cannot do the right formatting with a submission software. The formatting might go wrong making your post look really bad.
