  • E-commerce hosting plans

I have some of my products that I want to display on internet and wanted to set up a e-commerce website for the same. I got confused when I saw your website with so many packages mentioned in it. I don't know which hosting package to choose. So please let me know what I should do to get my online business running. I need the best package that suits me.

Considering that it is a website at initial stage with not much content, I would recommend you to consider Cheap Linux Shared hosting plan to start with. You will also get an e-commerce software which can be installed from control panel. The package details are available at the below link:-
cPanel Hosting UK | Shared Linux PHP MySQL cPanel Hosting

Is there any ecommerce software provided with Windows Shared Hosting plan? I am familiar with Windows XP and Vista. I haven't used Linux, so I am thinking of Windows Hosting. What do you say?

There is no connection between the OS you select for a hosting plan and the OS you are running on your machine. You can still use a linux plan

No.. not required, Server OS has nothing to do with what OS you use on your local machine !
Just check if your webhost provides you managed hosting services so that you have helping hand in case you got stuck with some tech issue...

Do you think a BASIC cPanel shared hosting plan can accommodate my needs. What if I use more resources within some month. So in that case what will happen. I need to make sure that my website does not get affected if I use more resources as there should be some option for this. So can you let me know a solution for this ?

You can start with a BASIC Linux Shared hosting plan for now and later on upgrade to a higher hosting plan, as upgrades can be made at any point of time. You will receive a mail from us as soon your bandwidth Strikes 80 % mark, so you can upgrade your hosting plan to a higher one which has more resources allotted to it.

Ok, so I will start with the hosting package as suggested. What is a SSL. Will it benefit my e-commerce website ?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer which is used for transmitting private documents via the Internet in secured way. This is extremely useful on billing systems, contact forms, and e-commerce systems. If you are willing to have Online Transactions via your website, then a SSL certificate is recommended for having secured payment transfers. Having a SSL installed on your website will built enough confidence within your clients to buy products and enter their bank details on your website, as they know that a SSL will help to keep the details very safe and secured.

I have seen few URLs with https://, I assume it is something related to SSL. Is it possible to have https://www.mail.mydomain.com ? Also, does it make difference if it is https://www.mydomain.com and https://mydomain.com?

When you install a SSL on your domain name, the url turns to https://www.mail.mydomain.com from http://www.mail.mydomain.com. This will show that you have secured your domain name to have safe payment transactions via your website, so that customers can easily purchase products from your website.

On your page you have mentioned that you offer a Shared SSL on your Shared hosting plans, so can that help or will I need only a Dedicated SSL. Does it makes any difference if I have a Shared SSL rather than a Dedicated SSL ?

If you are serious business owner and sell products online then i will advice you to go with Dedicated SSL rather then shared.

If you are trying to save few bucks using Shared SSL, then your domain URL may look unprofessional something like this: https://secure.yourhost.com/~username/
whereas using a dedicated ssl certificate you have a private secure url such as https://secure.yourname.com/

I do not find shared ssl of any use... Private SSL is secure. It also gives your customers a confidence that the website will carry secure transactions.

Yes, if you are going to have online transactions via your website, then you will need to have a Dedicated SSL certificate, shared SSL will be of no use. A Dedicated SSL is recommended to have safe and secure Payment tracsactions.
