  • VPS v/s Semi-Dedicated Server

I have a community site that has more than 100 users and I need to find a web hosting service that will handle that traffic.

I mostly CGI or PERL scripts on websites, and I know they take up quite a bit of CPU/Memory usage. I need to know a hosting company or plan that would hold up the site.

The plans offered by webhosting.uk.com seem to be fitting, but please help me decide whether I should go with Virtual Private Server or semi-dedicated server... it should at least be able to recover if the resource limit is exceeded

    Thanks for your time.

    Welcome to Webhosting UK community
You can start with a Semi-Dedicated package which have more allotted server resources compared to VPS, you can them move ahead with a Cloud Hosting as need arise. Our tech support staff will take care of server migration.

I think cloud and semidedicated are offering upto 2 GB RAM. So your best choice will be to use CLoud server. Cloud is with 100% uptime.

Even my vote goes for Cloud, since they are based on latest technology which offers you 100% POWER / NETWORK uptime. They are cheaper if you can't afford to invest in dedicated server.

Hi, Welcome to Webhosting UK Forums.

A cloud server will indeed do the job in your case. You will have dedicated CPU and RAM allocation with Cloud Server. The Cloud Server can be completely customized while ordering.

Basically, Cloud hosting environment makes use of a number of different servers in a cluster to ensure that there will always be at least one server available to cope up with the load on the cluster or to replace a crashed server. That way we are able to guarantee 100% uptime on those plans.

Feel free to post if you need any assistance.

            Thanks for your quick responses.

I have taken a look at the Cloud plan now and the customized options are awesome, just what I need. The 100% uptime is tempting!! Last server I had with another host had warned me due to excessive CPU/Memory usage, they did not give me much to start..

            Questions --

What virtualization linux cloud will use?
I assume I will have root access?
If I opt for control panel you will install it for me or I have to install that myself?

What virtualization linux cloud will use?
The Linux Cloud will use VmWare.

I assume I will have root access?
Yes, indeed. You will have complete root access to the server.

If I opt for control panel you will install it for me or I have to install that myself?
This will be installed while set up. All standard applications and software's are pre-installed on the server.
