The AMD vs. Intel competition is well-defined: AMD processors are superior because they have more cores and threads if your software and workloads can benefit from them.
AMD used 66 more watts overall than Intel! This (according to TomsHardware data) would seem to show that Intel is more conservative than AMD when it comes to reporting its power efficiency numbers.
Due to less manufacturing design, AMD's R & D expenses are substantially lower. Conversely, Intel will develop a variety of architectural configurations. They make greater investments in R&D, production, etc.
