  • HostGator Sold to EIG for $225 Millions

The major hosting giant HostGator has been sold. According to the sources HostGator has been sold to EIG [Endurance International Group]. The deal is already signed however there is no specific reason mentioned for it. This is a major occurrence in the web hosting industry. EIG is a group of web hosting companies and over a period of time they have acquired many prominent web hosting companies. Among the arena of web hosting companies, EIG also has HostGator now.

It is believed that an amount of $225 Million USD was offered to HostGator owner, Brent Oxley and the deal was accepted by him. The process of transfer of ownership is still in process. Previously, EIG has acquired a lot of big web hosting companies. In terms of the acquired web hosting companies, the effect of this step was the loss of customer base. As EIG transfers all the account to their data center, the customers experience downtime at regular intervals and thereby the customer base is lost. The outcome of the deal between EIG and HostGator is unknown however considering the effects on the prior web hosting companies acquired, there will surely be a major impact on the web presence, brand awareness and customer base of HostGator. HostGator currently has over 400,000 customers globally, there is a big question as to how EIG will be able to mange the HostGator setup. The owner seems to be pretty convinved with the deal with and one of the reasons he mentioned for accepting this deal is that he is looking for a new challenge, could he be thinking of HostGator replication?

Why am I not surprised? Running a company is about the experience, not the end result. I'd feel responsible if I sold the company and staff members were made redundant. Good job I'm not with HostGator. Have you seen how many companies EIG own? The list is 30+ long.

Never believed that something like this would happen to HostGator. I have been seeing HostGator everywhere on the internet. Looked like a well established web host. This is indeed a shocking news!!!

It seems to be for Endurance International Group. I'm not sure why their strategy is to buy existing customer bases. Why can't they compete by having good technology and services and compete on that than simply buying out others?

This is something absolutely unbelievable!! I am sure Brent has given a serious thought to this. This is so shocking!! Although I am sure that Brent has given a serious thought to it, there is still a big question about how EIG plans to manage the business.

Selling HostGator was a a major step taken by Brent. I believe that every successful businessman always takes calculative and thoughtful decisions. I am sure Brent has something in mind, might be HostGator replication. No one can say anything at this point. I guess we just have to wait and watch

Ya you are right! All we have to do is wait and watch. HostGator is a big name now and if such a big decision is taken over it, I am sure everyone would be keen to know what the future holds for HostGator.
