Wikipedia is great and I always use it to find general information about things. But you should beware about validity of the information, as the content is user generated.

Yes, you can't rely solely on wikipedia, for making any critical decisions you should verify the information from other source too.

          Hello Paul,

Even we practice this, When we search a particular topic in Wiki, besides that we do open the links having the similar information. So at actual we do verify the content that we find in wiki with the the other websites delivering the same.

          Isn't that correct?

          Regards,
          Ken.

Indeed. Most of the internet users have a habit of opening few links in the same browser when they search for some information. Mostly, these users check all the links and try to find out the information given on each link.

If the same information is found on a number of links, the chances of the information being genuine is much more

Most of the time you will find the wiki articles having supporting links of reliable sources so you can even check the validity of content referring those links.

Those links are posted by the same users who post information on WIKI. Basically, site owners share knowledge on WIKI with a motive of getting a backlink from it as it is a high ranking site with a lot of traffic. However, those links can certainly be referred as the information found on those links is generally genuine information

WIKI is moderated regularly and there is very less chance that any spam links left behind unattended.

I often can't find good trustworthy resources about certain topics anywhere else except Wikipedia, although a lot of teachers in colleges state not to completely trust Wikipedia because it can be modified by anyone. Though a lot of statements on Wikipedia articles have citations (for example a [1] hyperlink just after the statement giving proof of the statement accuracy and validity), so I still use Wikipedia for research and report purposes. It's really useful, and free too!

Wikipedia is a great source of information. You can find information on almost anything. I refer to it all the time.
