Domain ID Protection

Under ICANN rules, registered domain names must have publicly-accessible "WHOIS" contact information which includes the registrant’s full name, postal address, telephone number and e-mail address.

Owning a domain name shouldn’t mean you need to sacrifice privacy: WHOIS Privacy Protection helps to solve this problem. Fully compliant with ICANN rules, it replaces your contact information with ours. If we receive any correspondence intended for you, we’ll forward it to you free of charge.

Protects your privacy

Keep spammers & hackers at bay

Domain privacy protection keeps your private contact information hidden from the public record. Your privacy will be assured as the domain contact details placed in the WHOIS record will be in no way traceable to you.

Compatible with popular domains

Now supports more domains than ever!

Our Domain ID Protection service works with many of the most popular domain extensions from around the world. However, some exclusions do apply, details of which can be found here.

Helps prevent spam

Protects your mailbox from unwanted email

With Domain ID Protection, domain owners remain contactable through email. However, to protect you, we apply a special cloaking email address that forwards any emails sent to your inbox. This ensures that your personal address does not become a target for spam.

Complies With ICANN

Always in control

Even though it won’t be your own details directly attributed to the domain, you will always be the legal owner and remain in control. At all times you will be able to modify the settings of your domain, including ID Protection from your control panel.

Can people still contact me?

When you register a domain name, your contact information will be known to the Domain ID Protection service provider and any communications they receive will be forwarded to you. If it is an e-mail, it will be forwarded to the e-mail address which they have on record from you. If it is a fax or letter, they will forward the letter to your place of residence.

  • What is Domain ID Protection?

Domain ID protection, also called as Whois ID protection, is a service that hides your contact details attached to your domain name from public visibility. This gives you an additional level of privacy and security to your domains from companies or individuals that want to sell you services, or gather your details for nefarious purposes. WHUK Domain ID protection maintains your privacy by replacing your personal information with alternative data.

  • What information is publicly available without Domain ID Protection?

When placing a domain name purchase order, it’s required to provide valid full name, full address, email address and phone number, all these details must be true and accurate. If personal data detects as incorrect, you risk losing your domain due to the violation of the terms and conditions set by ICANN and that you have approved while purchasing a domain name. It is also mandatory to make these details available in the public database, accessible via WHOIS.

  • Why would I need Domain ID Protection?

A whois lookup of your details can be used to send you unsolicited information, attempt to commit fraud or for malicious purposes. Furthermore, all these publicly accessible contact details expose the identity of the domain owner.

  • How does ID Protect help reduce spam?

As your address, telephone number and email address will no longer be publicly viewable on the WHOIS database, one of the sources spammers can get your details from is blocked.

  • Can I add ID Protect to a domain name that is registered elsewhere?

No. If your domain registrar isn’t able to provide this service, you can transfer your domain to WHUK very easily, please contact our billing or sales team and they are always happy to help with this.

  • Can I protect my contact details on .UK domains?

All individuals can protect their contact details from whois for .UK based domain names. Please contact our billing team for more information.
