What can a virtual dedicated hosting do for you?

If your goal is to be successful then you need to plan for that success. Most people who are there in the online business already know this answer because their website have outgrown shared hosting and their current web host has told them that they need to upgrade to a stronger solution that can handle heavier traffic and heavier resource usage which is memory and CPU. If you have a site that is fairly popular, a typical entry level virtual server with at least 512MB RAM,10 Gb of hard disk and 300GBof bandwidth should work perfect. With a virtual private server hosting , you’ll have plenty of server resources available which would be allocated to your site. This way, as your site earns more money and gains more traffic, you can expand your hosting accordingly. You can avoid this by monitoring your website statistics. If you see your site growing month over month (or in some cases, exploding overnight), take the proactive approach and spend a little more to get great quality hosting through a solid VPS hosting company. Trust us and you can thank us later.

VPS do have three major things for the client .

Full Customization – With virtual dedicated hosting users get full root access and SSH access to the server. This allows server customization that enables you to install your own software, applications, tweak performance, and manage your server as you would on a dedicated server. This option is not required, however, because you can purchase managed virtual server hosting has different control panels and operating systems of their choice.

Isolation – Each VPS has its unique file system and gets a guaranteed percentage of a server’s disk space, CPU power, bandwidth, and system memory (RAM). Therefore, a website hosted on a VPS runs on an isolated environment where its performance will not be affected by other websites. Also, a Virtual Private Server will not allow the sharing of web applications and services with other websites thus it eliminates the risk of downtime or hacks due to other customer mistakes that you have no control over.

Affordability – Virtual Private Servers Hosting are far cheaper than a dedicated server web hosting. While cheaper, client still get the features like dedicated servers but you won’t pay the price of one. virtual server hosting was marketed and developed for the person who needs more power than what shared hosting offers but cannot afford an expensive dedicated server.

Can I run a game server on VPS or Dedicated Server ?

For hosting game servers we recommend using a Dedicated Server, VPS hosting is not recommended for a game server since the processor power and memory allocations for a VPS are less compared to a single Physical dedicated server. If you wish to test the game server application on a VPS then you can consider our VPS Enterprise for a month but we do not provide support for game server web hosting on a VPS.

You can operate the dedicated server as a game server. We will provide you the dedicated server, and will install the operating system, if you would like to install game server software on it then you can of course do so. You have full access to the game server to install what you like. We do provide assistance with game server installations at no additional cost for Dedicated Server clients.

Every individual dedicated server gets a 100 Mbps connection. A choice between 10 Mbps and 1 Gbps is also available for dedicated server customers. Our shared & reseller web hosting servers have a direct link to one of the many ethernet gigabit backbone connections within the datacenter facility. The semi-dedicated and vps hardware nodes are all connected to independent 100 Mbps lines. The whole Network Operations Center / Datacenter has multiple lines of 15 Gbps from almost every Tier 1 provider. This not only gives us redundancy, but it also acts as a good buffer in times of a sudden spurt in bandwidth requirements. Leaving aside any unforeseen circumstances or during times when we face nature’s fury, there are no problems of connectivity which you would have to put up with.

Q. Could I get more information about the security measures you undergo in order to make sure data stored on your servers are not accessible to inadequate people.

Ans: When it comes to security within the data center premises, Web Hosting UK never allow anyone to enter Data Center area without a passport and letter of permission from main contact person dealing from customer side. Technical staff from customer side is allowed to connect to the dedicated servers through KVM session only and no direct physical contact with the dedicated server is permitted under normal circumstances.

With regards to security of individual VPS or Semi Dedicated servers, the hardware node is our responsibility, however securing individual VPS or Semi-Dedicated server is the customer’s responsibility. Once we have sent the login details, we do not have direct control over the kind of usage which happens. However, our technical support would try and help you as much as possible with your security and will give you suggestions accordingly. Having said that, certain security settings are already in place (depending on the control panel) but usually our technical support team can make additional tweaks to make sure your VPS or Semi Dedicated server is properly secured.

Q. What is the contention ratio of your Virtual Private Servers (VPS) Hosting ?

Ans: The contention ratio is the amount of vps users we put on the same vps node. Some vps web hosting providers practice the nasty habit of overselling; that is, creating as many vps hosting accounts onto the same vps node as possible and praying that they don’t all use their dedicated resources at the same time. That is not what we do. Even if all the vps hosting users on one of our VPS nodes were to use 100% of their vps hosting resources simultaneously, there would be enough to go around with plenty to spare. You can rest assured that your vps hosting account will always be stable and unaffected by the actions of any other Webhosting UK VPS hosting user. We make sure that each VPS receives its guaranteed amount of resources.

What do you mean by ‘burst RAM’?

Bursting means that while you are always guaranteed a certain amount of system resources, far more is available on each box than simply these guarantees. Hence, should you require your loads to spike higher than your guarantees, as long as the resources are available on the box at that time, you can use them, up to your ‘burst’ level.

The burst allotment is not the same thing as your resource guarantee. You cannot count on constant, sustained utilization of your burst resources. If your VPS constantly requires greater resources than your package guarantees, then you must upgrade to the higher VPS or Dedicated server plan.

Note:- WebHosting.uk.com provides only Guaranteed RAM with all the VPS hosting plans. Burstable RAM feature is not supported with any of our VPS hosting plans.
