Leech Protect is a Standard Security feature offered within cPanel. Suppose a user is publically posting usernames or passwords in restricted areas of your website and if it is causing a threat to your website’s security, you can restrict that user from doing the same. This also prevents a user who is trying to access another’s account using the correct username and trying to login using multiple combinations of passwords by guessing them. This prevents users from logging in multiple times within a short time span.

In Leech protect, the default time set is 2 hours. So you can define the maximum number of login’s for users in 2 hours. This is a kind of security feature which can be used for your domains.

How to setup Leech protect for a domain name

1) Assuming that you are logged into your cPanel. You will see a option of “Leech Protect” in “Security” section.

2) When you click on “Leech Protect”, you will get a new window. You can select a domain/ sub-domain which you have added previously in your cPanel.

3) When you click on “OK” button, you will get a new windows where you can select a particular folder which you wish to protect.

4) Once you click on a particular directory, you will get a new window where you can set the required permissions.

Here you can set the number of login attempts which can be made in 2 hours, so the user cannot login more than the limit allotted by you. You can even redirect the users to a different url if they are about to exceed the maximum number of login attempts. You just need to enter a url in that box. You can even send a email alert or a notification to that users email address. You can even suspend the users who are about to exceed the maximum number of login attempts. To reactivate their accounts, you just need to reset their passwords. After filling all the necessary details, you can secure a particular domain name.

If you wish to de-activate or disable Leech Protect, you just need to login into your cPanel, follow the same steps and then click on “Disable Protection”, so that Leech Protect will be disabled.

For making partial accounts on a server the administrator has to update few server wide changes. The administrator has to install smarty template engine on the cPanel server for the particular web hosting account. The installation of smarty template is as follow the steps.

Step 1: First of all you have to download the compatible smarty software from the website.

Step 2: Then one of the most important step is to extract that zip file within a specific folder. As soon as you extract the file you have to upload those particular folders which is in the directory which we have mentioned : /home/username/public_html/Smarty-3.0.7/

Step 3: You have to be very careful now onwards because in this step you have to customize your account one of the most important file which is know as “php.ini” this updates are done for a specific account. You have to update few paths or you can say you have to add the path as

include_path = “.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php” # this is default line in php.ini
You have to edit it as :-
include_path = “.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/home/username/public_html/Smarty-3.0.7/libs”

Step 4: There are few necessary changes you should make. To add the below mentioned following rule in to .htaccess file. Such changes are required to work out with the php.ini for executing the necessary changes for executing the necessary changes for a specific account.

SetEnv PHPRC /home/username/public_html/ # php.ini file should be saved under the mentioned path given /home/username/public_html/

Step 5: As of now the smarty application is ready to use The web libraries are complete ready to work to use the domain name.

Step 6: Now onward the scripts which is there on the server is using Smarty, there we have to add following line which are as follows :
require ‘/home/username/public_html/Smarty-3.0.7/libs/Smarty.class.php’

Make a note that you have to replace the “username” with your cPanel username.

Auto Responder is a tool provided in cPanel through which you can send automatic replies when some one sends you a email. Suppose you are on a Holiday and will not be able to refer your emails for a week. In this case you can set a auto mail like “I am on holiday and will get back to you when I come back”. This email will be sent automatically when some email comes in your mail box, so that the sender comes to know that you are on a Holiday and will not be able to reply him for next couple of days.

An Autoresponder can be set using the below method.
1) Login into your cPanel and check the “Mails” section. You will get a option of “Autoresponders”.

2) When you double click on “Autoresponders”, you will get the below screen. Now you can click on “Add Auto Responder” to set a new Autoresponder.

3) When you click on “Add Auto Responder” you will get the below screen. Now you will have to fill all the fields present in it.

a) Character Set :- It can be left as default which is ansi_x3.110-1983.
b) Interval :- Its the email frequency or the gap in between sending 2 emails to a single email address. Suppose , if you set up an autoresponder with an interval of12, and you receive an email from xxx@xyz.com at 10 am, the autoresponder will respond to his message immediately. If, xxx@xyz.com sends another email after a few hours, the autoresponder will not send him another response for 12 hours after his initial email (which is 10 am). If he emails you again after the 12hours, he will receive an auto response.
c) Email :- You should enter your email address before @ in the 1st box and the remaining part i.e the domain name in 2nd box.
d) From :- You can enter your name or the name of the person under whose name those emails will be sent.
e) Subject :- You can enter the subject of the email in this section.
f) Body :- You can type the message in this section which will be sent as reply (auto response) to the email address from where you have received the email.

In this way you can set a Autoresponder in your cPanel

How to: Disable your cPanel login details for the ftp access.

Normally user access the web hosting account with the FTP accounts. Some times with the default FTP account the account normally get misused by other personality. It has observed that if a hosting account has a default cPanel login which is enabled for the ftp access, the possibility of hacking the account is much easier. The hackers are very smart these days and can hack the ftp account very easily and will upload the script very easily on a particular web hosting account.

So far the security reason is to disable the ftp access for the cPanel users that means the “domainname.com” is the domain and “domainname” is the cPanel user name then you can not access the ftp account by using the user “domain”.

First of all we have to open the file to re-edit the stuff.

root@server [] vi /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpupdate

Then you have to go to the file and move to the line number 189 or 211 and make those line as a comment. If you are using some of the old cPanel version, then you are gonna get the following necessary code at line number 189 and if you cPanel version is from the upgraded version then you can get on line number 211.

You can see some of the necessary content below :

# print FTPASS join( ‘:’, $system_user, $entry->[1], $entry->[2], $entry->[3], $entry->[6], $entry->[7], $entry->[8] ) . “\n”;

$vhosts->{$system_user} = join( ‘:’, $system_user, $entry->[1], $entry->[2], $entry->[3], $entry->[6], $entry->[7], $entry->[8] ) . “\n”;

After all the necessary changes are done make sure you run few following command.

—————————————————-
root@server [] /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpupdate
—————————————————-

The biggest benefits of doing the above necessary stuff is you will be highly secured from the hacking process and regard of same the website is safe enough.

MySQL is one of the most well known and efficient databases for any of the website as it offers the perfect solutions. Sometimes these small MySQL queries can create big issue on a server side scripting. This article will teach you how to identify those particular querries that are creating a problem for your server. As such there are many non-technical users who rely on MySQL but do not want to become MySQL experts beyond the routine maintenance.

The information given here will serve like a guide for the non-technical users. You may or may not be the MySQL expert, once you understand the ‘dynamic’ SQL passing tests, it will help you to analyze the queries and isolate them. Once you have isolated the queries, you can consult with a MySQL expert to fix them.

The MySQL hosting plans can show the complete logs of those queries that are taking a lot of time. The time calculated is by X seconds of time out but this future is not turned on by default. When ever a query is related to the performance with the problems creep in, such users are at the loss because as there is no magical solution for the slow queries as none of the case is unique. Here’s how you turn it on:

Step 1:- First of all login to your web hosting server as root privilege.
Step 2:- As soon as you get into your server open the my.cnf with any of the editor you have. Example:
——————–
pico /etc/my.cnf
——————–

Step 3:- Check Into the [mysqld] section and add the following lines into it.
———————————————————————-
log-slow-queries = /var/log/mysql-slow.log
long_query_time = 3
———————————————————————-

This is just an example for the issue that we are discussing. At that location you will find multiple user as well as file name that you wanted to modify.

In this example
I will be logging to /var/log/mysql-slow.log any queries that are taking longer then 3 seconds.

Step 4:- Once the above mentiobned process is complete, you can go ahead to save the configuration.

For pico: CTRL+X and YES

Step 5:- Now the log file has to be created.

touch /var/log/mysql-slow.log

Step 6:- Once the owner of the mysql file is changed, it will be easier to write to it. The file can be updated after that.
—————————————–
chown mysql.root /var/log/mysql-slow.log
—————————————–
Step 7:- The most important thing we have to do is to restart the complete mysql.

service mysql restart

It should restart successfully. If it doesn’t check that you didn’t brake my.cnf

Step 8:- As the server gets restarted you will have to wait for sometime. You will also have to examine the slow queries log. Here is an example about how you can do it:
——————————-
cat /var/log/mysql-slow.log
tail /var/log/mysql-slow.log
tail -50 /var/log/mysql-slow.log
——————————–

Once you have identified the exact MySql query that takes a long time for execution; you can wither optimize the query or remove it. You can test the results by checking the server load and the MySQL slow queries log. Once you have fixed all the problems, go ahead and fix the slow queries as it will slow your server. my.cnf should now look similar to this:
————————————————————-
#log-slow-queries = /var/log/mysql-slow.log
#long_query_time = 3
————————————————————-

The process mentioned above will help you to fix the slow MySQL issue.

The callback function in PHP hosting is a commonly used technique. A callback is a code that is passed to a particular function and then later it is implemented by that function. This post will illustrate the process of sending callbacks in PHP and it also includes an example to explain how callbacks can be useful. In order to demonstrate how callbacks can be useful, we will assume that we have a PHP script; and when it is called it will download an RSS feed from 10 different web sites. In case it takes 2 seconds to download from every website, it will take 20 seconds for downloading from all the websites. The code for achieving this will look like the one mentioned below; this code also contains sleep() for demonstrating the script in a better way.

When you run this code, you will notice that it freezes until all the websites have been completed. At this point, it is important to access all the return data at once. The following figure illustrates the workflow of this script.

Returning the newly downloaded data as it becomes available is a much better solution. Of course, it is also possible to hard-code the required functionality in the
downloadFromSites()
function, however doing so will make it very difficult to reuse the code and use the returned data in a different way according to the requirements. The diagram given below shows the workflow of the previous function modified for using the callbacks. In this scenario, the callback function is called every time a single website completes downloading.

Using callbacks becomes very simple with PHP as it also uses the helper functions – is_called() and call_user_func(). There are mainly 3 types of callbacks that can be used:

1. A standard PHP function. This is passed as a string such as
'callbackName'

2. A static method of a class. This is passed as an array along with the the class name as the first element and the method name as the second argument. For example,
array('MyClass', 'MyCallback')

3. A method of an object. This is also passed as an array, but instead of the class name being the first element, the object is the first element. For example,
array($obj, 'MyCallback')

The listing mentioned below illustrates the process of defining all types of callbacks and then the process of referencing each one of them.

In order to test if a callback can be used you can use the is_callable() function. This function accepts the callback as its only argument and returns true if it is a valid callback. It is then possible for you to call the with the call_user_func(). The callback is passed as the first argument, and if any arguments are accepted by the callback function; they can be included as second and subsequent arguments. The code mentioned below demonstrates how this can be typically used. This code ensures a callback can be called, then calls it with a single argument. This script outputs
Hello
.

Returning to our previous example, it is now possible to alter the
downloadFromSites()
function so it accepts a callback as the second argument. Therefore now along with returning all of the data once all websites have been processed, the callback will be called after each website is processed. The callback will accept the website name as its first argument and the downloaded data as the second argument.

When you run this code, you will see that the “finished downloading” message is displayed as each website is completed.

If you have an addon domain where every single image file goes to a 404 message and the addon domain for the user is not displayed. The addon domain that was added in the user’s account is not being displayed in the Cpanel hosting platform. The user might also face a problem while creating it again – in that case you will have to follow the steps mentioned below to resolve it.

Step 1:- Fist of all you need to login to your root WHM, as soon as you get into the root; get into the DNS Functions and then you have to delete the DNS Zone. You can also delete the entire zone where this particular addon domain belongs.

Step 2:- Again login to your account via shell as the root user and you can delete the virtual entry that is added for the same addon domain from the location - /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

Step 4:- Now you can login to your cPanel and add that particular addon domain with the same directory name as it was earlier.

Your issue will get resolved with the above mentioned steps.

Note :- For executing the entire process you must have root access to your server.

phpMyAdmin tutorial will help you to become more familiar with phpMyAdmin databases and phpMyAdmin interface. We are going to assume that you are logged into your web hosting account on the web server. The control panel will show you the phpMyAdmin. When we open the phpMyAdmin the main screen is divided into two different screens. If you look at the blue section on the left, you can see the databases that are already present within your blog or website listed and you have a complete direct access.

As every one knows that the database consists of multiple tables, and it is in the tables that database information is recorded. In the blue screen, below any databases you have, it will list any tables in those databases. You can see the database name on the left hand side, the right hand screen opens up with information about that the tables contained in that database, as well as giving you the option of performing several actions. In that section, you will be allowed to perform several actions on each individual table. You can Browse a table to see the individual records. You can see the Structure of a table, and perform certain actions. You can Search for specific keywords in a table. You can easily update such as insert, delete, add, new rows (or fields) in the table. You can delete the contents of a table by clicking on the big red X, you can also delete the complete table.

There are multiple lists of action links at top of the window, you can get into and click on the link structure in the upper left corner to view the database structure. The next link is SQL, and it will open a SQL Query window for entering direct queries to the database. The next link is Search, you can click on it to perform a search. The following link is Query, which also opens a SQL Query window, but provides an easier step-by-step way to make queries. The next link is Export, which you can use to export databases to your local computer. The Import link will import previously exported databases. The Operations link can do a number of other operations, like creating new tables, and copying or renaming databases.

Whenever you return back to the blue section and click on a table name tab, the other screen will now display you the complete structure of the database table. It will list all the tables fields, along with the type of field, attributes, and other properties. If you scroll down, it will tell you which field is the Primary Key field. It provides lots of other information about the table, and has the same action links at the top of the screen that the database did. In the blue screen, right below the phpMyAdmin name, there is a row of icons. If your want further help with SQL you can click the icon that is for Documentation. It is a box, with SQL inside it. The box with the question mark will get you assistance with phpMyAdmin by clicking on it. The middle box, with the red SQL is another way of opening the SQL Query window. The icon with the Exit and arrow will log you out of phpMyAdmin. Clicking on the house returns you to the main screen.
