Default Appropriate hosting plan for a blogging website

I am looking forward to upgrade my hosting plan and I have received the following advice – If you are using ASP or .Net; you must use a Windows based hosting plan. Likewise if you are using PHP/CGI/Java/Perl in your website you will need to use a Linux based hosting plan. Can anyone please clarify me on this? I would like to setup a blogging website; it would be really great if someone can provide me with the information about the appropriate hosting plan.

Choosing the Server Operating system depends upon the applications used to built your website. If you have a website built in asp, asp.net or MS-SQL or you are willing to use any Microsoft application like ColdFusion or any other, you will have to opt for a Windows based hosting plan. If you have developed your website in php or html, then you can opt for a Linux based hosting plan. Our Hosting plans support different Blogging applications like Wordpress, b2evolution, Open Blog, Nucleus, Dotclear. So please confirm Blogging application which you wish to use and also confirm your space and bandwidth requirements, so that I can suggest you a hosting plan based on your requirements.

Though, you can go ahead and choose any of our Windows hosting plans for hosting your website/blog as Windows supports all the blogging platforms and applications available, however, choosing a Windows hosting plan won't be beneficial for you if you are using a blogging platform which is supported on Linux hosting plans as Windows hosting plans are expensive in comparison to Linux hosting plans and Linux is considered to be a better option when it comes to hosting.

Therefore, you can let us know the blogging platform you wish to use so that we can suggest you a hosting plan accordingly.
