I think I've found our own workaround - my MD has decided to go to VPS. I've a couple of questions to ask first, and I was about to go to billing and ask when your post landed. But your workaround will undoubtedly help others.

We need to be able to upload some fairly meaty files (we're a video production company and >20 meg is average file size to upload) and there's a 1meg limit on shared hosting. The soundtrack is *that*.
The VPS package sounds great Ian!

Please get in touch with our Billing Dept through our live chat feature. There would be no such file uploading limit or restriction setup on the Windows VPS..

I did that, to Sales, with some questions, and they put me through to 'Windows', so that was alright. I wanted to make sure about a couple of things (like .NET 4 and SQL Server 2008 being available. I was sure they would be, but it doesn't say that on your web pages) and wanted to know how long it would take to migrate. We have agents and customers in the Americas using the system, so downtime needs to be planned. As it's going to take, I'm told, around 5 hours, I think it's going to be a middle of the night job, unfortunately.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,

Yes, all the necessary components will be available on the VPS too. We can have this planned on the coming weekend (night time) when the traffic would be least & it won't take much time to migrate the data, but the DNS switch will be done during the weekend only to avoid any downtime.

The plan would be this:
1) VPS will be setup now.
2) Data will be copied across along with the DBs on Saturday.
3) You'll check everything & once its found to be alright, switch the DNS.
4) We'll backup & restore the DB if it contains any updated data if required..

Let us know if you're ready to go ahead with this or have any other views.

Thanks, that's about how I figured it as well. I'll see what I can do about kicking it off tomorrow. The boss has been busy all trying to sort out my salary and I certainly wasn't going to distract him from *that* task.

Cheers
