The main advantage of using Windows based Hosting package is that it it supports all Microsoft applications like ASP, MS-SQL, MVC and many more. There Microsoft applications are not supported on Linux OS. So if anyone who wants to use any of the Microsoft application has to opt for a Windows based hosting plan only.

One of the main difference between Linux and Windows based hosing is the cost. As Linux is a open source and the database like MySQL which is compatible with Linux is also a open source. So you don't need to pay any additional licensing fees in Linux. Whereas as Windows is a Licensed produce and the database like MS-SQL which is compatible with it is also licensed. So the user has to bear a additional licensing cost in Windows. This is a major difference or one can say the disadvantage of using Windows.

Customers prefer using a windows based account when the need the following functions:

- ASP Support
- ASP.NET Support
- Powerful SQL Server Database
- Access Database Support
- PHP and MySQL Compatible
- IIS Web Server

these can also be said the advantages of a windows account. Linux does not support ASP, ASP.net, Mssql and other microsoft based applications.

If you are familiar with the Windows operating system, having a Windows based server will make the learning process much easier. You won’t have to worry about learning a new language just to maintain your website. For beginners, this is a definite plus.

The disadvantage with windows hosting is that it uses more resources. The windows server use more resources than one running on Unix. That means you need sufficient resources on the server like RAM, more disk space which will ofcourse increase the cost.

Windows Plans are generally expensive when compared with other OS. Windows happens to be a paid OS. This obviously increases the cost of the hosting package or the server. However, some users have tasks and applications that need only windows hosting, that's the reason they will opt for it no matter how much extra they need to pay.

There are multiple benefits of using window as a platform but one of the big disadvantage of using windows is the cost. While going window, the licensing cost is involved in the expenditure.

When you are talking about Licensing cost on Windows Reseller plans, there is no licensing cost on Operating system. We provide Windows 2008 Enterprise edition OS as standard with the hosting plan. MS SQL 2005 Enterprise is also provided as standard with the hosting plan. The user also has a option to opt for MS SQL 2008 Enterprise by paying additional licensing fee. We also provide Clodfusion on our Windows Reseller plans at a additional cost.

I see that you have a additional licensing fee for OS on VPS or Cloud while there is no such additional fee for the same on Shared or Reseller. Can you explain the reason for this ?

You are right. We have a additional licensing cost for some OS on VPS or Cloud because in Reseller plans we install the OS on the main Dedicated server on which your account is setup. So all the accounts setup on the main Dedicated server will have the OS which is insalled on main Dedicated server. As VPS or Cloud is like small Dedicated server, so OS has to be installed on that particular server.
