Default Should Domain registrar and Hosting provider be the same ?

Can you share your views on keeping the domain registrar and hosting provider the same or should we register domain with a different registrar, update the DNS and host it on a different providers server ?

Well, it is recommended that you register your domain name with your hosting provider as you will have all at one place. In this case, if you register a new domain name and you have the hosting with the same provider as well, they will update the nameservers of your domain which make your job easy instead of having hosting from a provider and then contacting your domain registrar to update the nameservers of your domain always.

I've experienced more than two web hosting provider that outsource their domain registrar in other company. It still works fine and got no problem with it but if I were to own a web hosting company, I think it's better to have them both.

Its better to keep domains and hosting at one place, which I personally do This reduces the work to update the nameservers at your domain registrar's end. If both are kept at one place, you don't have to worry about updating the nameservers. Hosting provider will directly update the nameserver once you registrar a new domain with them. This also cuts down the response time like to send a email to domain registrar and then ask him to update the nameservers.

There is no harm in keeping hosting and domain name with same company if you know they are a big company and aren't reseller themselves. All legitimate domain registrars will register your domains in your name. Make sure your hosting company does and gives you access to set DNS for your domain name. If they do then I do not see any problems having both with the same company.

In my opinion, it is better to have the same domain registrar and the hosting provider. In this way everything is managed at the same place. The only thing is that you must take care if the hosting company is genuine that provides with good hosting features. Otherwise there is no problem with one company being the domain registrar and hosting provider.

In my opinion, with separate registration and hosting, you have the opportunity to leave your host and go to another one, with no loss of the domain and all its value. Sometimes when you buy a package through one company for both the domain and the hosting plan, you find in the fine print that they have retained the actual ownership of the domain name. Thus, unless you want to move to a different domain name and lose everything you have built up in the way of membership or customer base, and search engine results, you are trapped at that host.

There is absolutely no harm in keeping the domain name and the hosting account with a single company. We set the domain ownership in the client's name, provide them complete access to change DNS. In case a client requests a transfer out, we do the needful from our side.

Good to know that the company sets the ownership in the users name. I have seen many companies who offer domains for free and then if one wants to cancel the hosting with them they would refuse to give the control for the domain name. One should confirm the terms with such companies before ordering.
