Default What is virtulization

With virtulization technique, partitions are created in one physical server to create several virtual servers. Each of these virtual servers can function as a standalone server and can be individually rebooted. Virtualization products like Hyper V from Microsoft have radically improved the output and performance of windows virtual hosting environments

VMWare is another Hardware Virtualization application which is known for it's reliability and functionality. Though, it's not like Hyper-V which is available with the operating system, it's still widely used for virtualization as it offers most of the features which are needed by users. It is mostly used for Linux platform but it also supports Windows operating system.

As of me Virtualization is basically a technique of distributing the resources of a single server or multiple servers and creating servers which have their own existence and act as standalone servers. A Virtualization application performs the task of distributing the resources of servers.

You are indeed correct but virtualization applications also vary and each of them distribute resources in a different manner. For example, VMWare being a hardware virtualization application distributes all the resources of the server including CPU resources but this is not the case with Virtuozzo as it's a software virtualization application and does not distribute CPU resources.

Virtualization is the creation of a virtual version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources. It can be viewed as part of an overall trend in enterprise IT that includes autonomic computing, a scenario in which the IT environment will be able to manage itself based on perceived activity, and utility computing, in which computer processing power is seen as a utility that clients can pay for only as needed. The usual goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving scalability and work loads.

Moreover improved disaster recovery solutions are provided that supports smooth functioning of the business operations. The hardware maintenance costs are also reduced because there are fewer physical servers.
