I have been reading some articles on SSL certificates recently. I wish to get that installed on one of my domains, but I am kinda confused between choosing a Shared SSL or a Dedicated SSL certificate. Im not able to get the difference between the two. Some websites recommend the usage of Shared SSL while others dedicated.
Im in a confused state of mind and want someone to help me to identify the best out of the two SSL Certificates. It would be further helpful if someone here can give me an explanation on why I must use a particular SSL among the two.
You should only consider a dedicated SSL. A dedicated SSL is to gain trust of your potential buyers. Dedicated ssl is dedicated to your website and in the owners name.
Dedicated SSL is owned by a single user and is installed on a single domain. Dedicated SSL will ensure that the transactions done through your website are secure. Client's can go ahead with the purchase with an assurance that their personal details does not fall in the wrong hands.
Though shared SSL too can be considered, but the only constraint would be that you would have to use a website URL that is complicated and difficult to remember.
For example
A Shared SSL's URL will be :- https://server_host_name/~username ~/yourdomain_name
The shared SSL certificate is generated for the hostname of the server and you use the server name to connect to your website. Private SSL will use your domain name. When a potential customers visit your site, they will see that you own the certificate and that gives them the confidence to use your site and products.

Could you provide more information on the type of website you are running? Accordingly we can suggest you a SSL for your website.
Shared SSL provides a method for secure, encrypted access to your web content without the need of obtaining a dedicated IP address and your own SSL Certificate.
A dedicated SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, certificate is held by a website's owner, and it contains only information specific to that site or business. The dedicated SSL certificate requires verification of the website's information and ensures an extra layer of security when compared to a shared SSL certificate.
So, I would prefer dedicated SSL because it is better than shared SSL.
