This is a very crucial decision. A bad company can cause a big loss. Not only reliable but you should find out does the web hosting service provide 24x7 support. It is very important to have 24/7 support.

24/7 support is very important . More important is how fast they reply to your emails. I think live chat support is important so response is fast.

In my opinion while choosing the hosting company one should look at Up-time of the server guaranteed by the hosting company. Most of the company now a days do provide 24 hrs of technical support service, but the quality of the support is the aspect one should always pay more attention. The control panel on offer with the hosting package is also the important factor, as using control panel only you'll be managing the hosting account of yours.

Last but not least, the application/website you want to run on the hosting account, its prerequisites & system configuration requirements should meet the one provided by the hosting company with its package.

I too agree with the point Phil has noticed to choice a web hosting company. I too prefer checking the 2 points which are Up-time of the server and technical support service. These 2 information are one of the most appropriate way to set the mindset .

Yes uptime is very important factor for me. If your website is not running then you can loose business.

The modes of support should be considered. Phone support, live chat support and email support makes it easy to contact the webhosting provider when ever you need them.

Anothing aspect is to look for the addons that might be needed. Some websites need videos to be streamed on their website, in that case a server should support the required modules.

Speed, security and reliability are extremely important for a website. These factors should be looked for.

One should check for the reviews of the company and how long the company has been in business. There are review forums where people post their reviews about a hosting company, these should be referred although it is not a good idea to rely on them

Reliabilty if you look in a broader sense should include:

Uptime guarantee
Spam control features.
Backups
Server monitoring.

Make sure the host is reliable. Check how long they have been in business. Get some reviews by checking their online community. Check the support by visiting their live chat at odd times. Also, make sure they have 30 day money back guarantee.

Yes, how long they have been in business is an important factor here. Coming to reviews, you should also check some big web hosting communities like Webhosting talk where users post the reviews of the hosting companies they have used.
