Default Server Security on Dedicated Servers

Everyone knows that nowdays, hacking attempts are increasing day-by-day. One dead hole and your is hacked, in such case, What are the security measures one should follow to improve the security on dedicated server?

When you are web hosting on a dedicated server then there are many things you should know about improving security. For example, if you use an FTP, which many of us do. Make sure that you only enable it when it is in use. If not then turn it off. Left enabled it could attract a hacker, who would look for one of those holes that you mentioned.

I did not know that pricetin. Thanks for the advice. I am going to make sure that I disable my FTP from now on. I would hate to be leaving and open door for hackers.

Something else to be careful of is applications. Before you install and application on your dedicated server, make sure that it is a known, and trusted application.

Thanks for including that thread in this thread. I really found the other one helpful. What I recommend is that each person come up with a set of guidelines, or protocols. Even if you are not a large business, protocols can really help keep someone who is web hosting on track. Some people think that protocols are only for huge companies, but that is not true.
