Default How Does Green Web Hosting Work?

I've heard about green web hosting to be eco-friendly but how does this exactly work? How do you make servers become organic? What about the cost of this type of hosting, will it be cheaper or not?

Green web hosting basically refers to the use of servers and technology which does not harm the environment. Nowadays, constant efforts are being made in order to reduce/eliminate the use of technology which harms the environment. New servers are being developed which consume less electricity and efforts are being made to produce energy with the help of natural resources like solar energy. Also, it is realized that growing trees around the datacenter will help reduce the harm done to the environment and hence you will find many datacenters encouraging the growth of trees around them.

Hope this helps

Yeah Garry, we should take initiative to preserve our Motherland !!

Green Eco-friendly webhosting service providers are playing vital role in reducing carbon foot. Using clean renewable energy sources like Solar/Wind/tidal power we will definitely help our globe to Go Green.
Global warming should be taken very seriously and it's our prime obligation to use renewable energy. Many datacenters have already stepped in for their contributions in controlling their carbon footprints, they have started using power efficient advance technologies/products and aggressively use renewable energy to power up the datacenter.

Message :: Please turn off power strips and lights when not in use !

So how can data centers save energy when most of the servers run 24 hours a day? Anyway, I don't know how data centers contribute pollution to the environment. Most servers only use electric and there is no carbon dioxide released like with factories, that what I know anyway.

Datacenters can save energy by using servers which consume less electricity and they can help by switching off the devices and lights which are not used regularly. Some of the datacenters are trying to produce electricity by natural resources like Solar energy and thus reducing the use of electricity which is available for the use of human beings.

Also, it's not only about the electricity consumption but saving the planet and encouraging datacenters to grow trees around them definitely helps

This is really a great idea started by data centers. I hope this will become a common procedure by all companies.

I read another method of green web hosting is by planting a tree for every purchase of a dedicated server.

Indeed. Most of the datacenters and other companies are getting involved in this practice and what is good to know is that people using the services are also contributing towards this noble cause and we hope that one day there will be greenery all around the globe with the best possible environment

Great discussion! I am interested with the renewable energy sources used to power up the servers. What kinds of energy sources commonly used to power the servers and other systems in a data center? Is that solar and wind energy like what I am thinking now?

Exactly. Most of the datacenters are trying to generate electricity/energy using Solar and Wind energy and one of the reasons for this is the fact that these resources are available for free and are unlimited.
