Default Wordpress or Wordpress MU

Hi,

I was just thinking of installing wordpress on one of my domain names, and suddenly came across Wordpress MU. Can someone tell me what is the difference between Wordpress and Wordpress MU and also what would be better for installing between these two.

You can refer thread for the difference between WordPress vs. WordPress MU.
We would recommend you go for Word press cause it's more easy to operate/install and no advance hosting required campare to Wordpress MU.

Thank you for the link Vasco however in Wordpress section I can read that WordPress allows posting via email. How is this possible? Can you please let me know more about this so that I can just send an email and post it directly on my wordpress blog

Hello,

Word Press supports to post via email. You will have to enable it from WP admin section.

1) - Create an e-mail account

2) Log in to WordPress with the administration login you use to administer your WordPress blog.
3) Go to Settings > Writing.
4) Read the instructions under Post via e-mail at the bottom of the page.

Regards,
Vasco S.

I would prefer to use Wordpress than Wordpress MU also. It is easier, simpler to manage and I have got used to it. Moreover, Wordpress MU is more vulnerable to hacking attempts, as the hackers would need a single username and password only to access multiple blogs.

You should choose the type of Wordpress you need depending on your needs. If you wish to have Multiple Blogs then you can choose Wordpress MU, however, if you wish to have only 1 Blog, I would recommend you to choose Wordpress

Wordpress MU is for blog hosts, IMO. I wouldn't use it for anything else. It is a little less secure because you have multiple people basically sharing the same database. If you were to open a blogging service, then yes, MU is for you.

If you just want to open multiple blogs, I would consider multiple intalls of single user WP. Yes it's a bit more of a hassle, but in the long run it is more secure (as long as you use different credentials for each, and different credentials for each DB)

Installing Wordpress even on multiple blogs won't be a hassle if you have cPanel control panel with Fantastico. The reason for this is the fact that Fantastico allows you to install Wordpress and update it with a few simple clicks

Well, yea, Fantastico is the ideal way to go.

Unfortunately, some addons to WP require you to know the DB credentials, and unfortunately, as Fantastico creates the DB and DBUser for you, it doesn't supply the credentials. You would have to go in, change the DBUser Password to something you know, then go to your WP install and edit the config to reconnect to the DB.

That's what I meant by a hassle. I should have mentioned that it was a hassle if you had plugins that required DB info.
