Well, you will also get Shared hosting and Reseller hosting packages setup on Cloud servers and I believe, it won't be possible to offer Root access with the Shared and Reseller hosting packages on Cloud hosting.

Cloud hosting is for the webmasters and website owners who are looking for simple, powerful reliable and scalable solution for their website and applications. As there are different types of clouds so it will really depend. Cloud hosting is just like shared hosting. I mean to say that, you will need to work within the framework that's already there. For example, there will be no root access, custom versions of PHP, MySQL, etc.

Cloud hosting sounds to be the good solution for the people who are not able to maintain a VPS or Dedicated servers and often get frustrated because of lack of maintenance or limitations. Cloud hosting solves most of that problems. Anyone who owns online business can use cloud hosting. As because we have to pay for what we use so it is ultimately making cheaper and it is also good for those who do know what they are doing and are able to work within the time frame of cloud hosting provider.

This is what i have understood after reading lots of articles on Cloud hosting.

IMO, Cloud Hosting is an advanced combination of VPS and Dedicated hosting and in this, cluster of servers are connected and a portion of it is provided to the user to use, if users needs more, the size of the portion can be increased.

Clustering of the servers is the base of cloud hosting, and therefore it gives a very strong back up for the cloud hosting.

Yes if you really need more resources you'll think paying less than for a full server, also depending on the cloud if you're getting fully redundant network connectivity, managed server and self healing in case of failure with automatic failover, you may think over to choose the VPS Cloud platform but you should wait till the Cloud hosting technology really settled because this technology is still taking shape.
