Default Benefits of Linux Hosting

It seems that many of us consider Linux Hosting rather than going for Windows Hosting. What could be the main reasons behind this?

1) Linux being open-source
2) Cheaper than Windows
3) Easier to Upgrade

Are these the only reasons or there are others as well?

I think not just the o/s but also the Apache Server which I think has always been considered the best, most stable web server.

Security factors can also be added in the above list, its believe that Linux based servers are more secure as compare to windows.
Moreover you can easily get technical help for linux based server though forums and community sites as most webmaster prefer to have Linux as their web hosting platform.

As a OS to be used on the PC's we see Windows is most common. Then why is that when it comes to host a website, the things go round the way and we see that even WebMasters look for Linux instead of Windows?

You yourself have already answered your question

1) Linux being open-source
2) Cheaper than Windows
3) Easier to Upgrade
4) Security factors
5) Excellent technical support through forums/blogs
and many more factors which had made Linux as most popular operating system for servers.

One more reason that Linux is considered more than Windows for web servers is the fact that Linux is more compatible with most of the applications and development technologies available which is not the case with Windows as Windows is mostly compatible with Microsoft technologies which limits the users of Windows.
