Default FTP file limit

Hello
I just sent a support ticket to vps support about a problem one of my clients was having...
This is the message I sent....

Hello
I moved a new client over a couple of days ago from another host.
I moved the files myself and uploaded them...all ok.
After closing my ftp program (I use Dreamweaver) as I prefer to transfer this way rather than using the WHM transfer...lol....when I reopened it some of the folders/files were missing.
After reuploading them several times and them still not showing in the remote view in my ftp program, I checked in File Manager on cpanel....the folders/files were there....BUT they still were not showing in my ftp program Remote View.
When I upload the folders, they appear in Remote View but if I refresh, they disappear. Its very strange.
The folders in question are:
tcindex_files
tcg
profiles
I have deleted the package twice and reset it up again with the same result. I have left it for 8 hours before resetting it up again.
I had this problem once before from the same host...with another client.
It appears to be something to do with Frontpage as that is what my client used to upload her files, on both occasions.
I have tried removing the FP extensions from this particular account and still nothing.
My client no longer uses Frontpage as her ftp program.
Can you help/advise please??

So....I wait and get this reply....

Hello,

I have checked the files/folders under account happybeepixels.net, I can see the above mentioned folders. Through ftp you can see only upto 2000 files/folder. It seems the number of files/folders under this account is more than 2000, thats reason you are not able to see some of the files/folders.

Ok well this doesnt make sense to me....
My own site has well over 2000 files/folders and I can see all of those!
Wondered if anyone had any ideas about this...???
Or maybe suggestions...??
Anyone ever had this problem before and found a solution to it...???
It just doesnt make sense........
Thanks!

MaryT

Hello Mary,

FTP Software installed with cPanel control panel has got this limitations. You wont be able to list more than 2000 files or folders in a specific directory.

You can list upto 32,000 files and folders on a 32 bit OS using SSH client, however you wont be able to list more than 2000 using FTP software.

You may like to refer forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=23661 for more information on this.
