Price, uptime, and customer support are the main factors I take into consideration when choosing a web hosting company. I don't think the period of time the company has been in existence is relevant. What are new companies supposed to do? Not have any clients during their first years? However, with new companies, I tend to check the WhoIs information and find out for how long has the domain been registered. If the domain is registered for several years, that is a sort of confirmation that the company is serious and will not disappear overnight.
