Hi Admin, since yesterday I have been having huge problems with my vps. What started as intermittant email problems escallated into messed up iptables, bandmin errors, services stopping all the time. Receiving 6-7 emails an hour from the server tellinh me of errors.

There seems no obvious reason why these errors occured (although have asked support why but not had an answer), it appears they need to have SWsoft engineers sort the problem which apparently will take a long time. I now have to move again.

Anyway, although I am not happy about going through the trouble of moving, apart from everything else I now have trusted bulk emails I can send to yahoo, hotmail, etc, ..... I wondered if you could look into this issue for me please?

If I do have to move (hope not), then could I at least move to the new 'all singing' server you mentioned?

My ticket number is : #DRX-99568-713

I would appreciate it if you would kindly look into this matter for me.

Regards
Jon

Hi Jon,

I had a word with our VPS Team members and they have fixed all iptables related problems on your VPS. If you really wish to migrate to one of our high specification new nodes then let me know and I will ask them to proceed with the migration.

Migration brings few technical problems so you will need to get all those sorted from our VPS Team before you switch DNS IPs. let me know how you wish to proceed.

Thanks for looking into it for me, appreciated.
Unfortunately I am still getting many emails with error:
Can't find a backend (ipchains or ipfwadm or ipfw or ipf) at /usr/local/bandmin/IP/Acct.pm line 55.

I have informed support.

Although I would like to move to a new high spec node, I think it would be better to stay where I am. I don't know if you remember but I was having huge problems loggin into whm on old server (one before this one), and this server has been fine for me.

Unfortunatly whm and cpanel are hit and miss at the moment as far as logging in, websites 'page cannot be displayed' and am a little concerned with this email problem too.
Am hoping once these problems are sorted, all will be well again.

Thx
jon

I'll go and have a word with our VPS Team members. Will let you know once I check what exactly is happening on your VPS.

Hello Jon, Bandmin problem has been sorted now. Callouts feature was enabled in your WHM which creates email problems. I have disabled callouts to sort out email problems that you were facing.

Thx, I think I also should have been clearer. I was getting the callouts but another problem to go with mentioned above is that receivibg emails is hit and miss. Sometimes I can download them but most of the time I get server connection error like below. This was the original problem before all the rest started.

Quote:
The server responded with an error. Account: 'jon.westdorset.org.uk', Server: 'mail.westdorset.org.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90
Am getting this on 3 accounts but not sure if any of my clients are having sme problem but i assume they are.

thx

Thats due to your AVG Antivirus
If you had given this error message to me earlier then we could have sorted it in no time as there's absolutely nothing wrong with your VPS.

I have 10 email accounts which I download into Outlook, of which only 4 are emails from my vps. All other emails are ok and coming through fine. Only vps emails were not getting through. I gave this error message to support more than once who restarted services that seemed to cured the problem.
Also it wasn't just my accounts that were affected, a couple of clients were also affected, so maybe not just related to avg!

Also my main problems weren't email related, they were iptables related I believe. I was just trying to give you a full picture of the problems I was facing.

At this moment in time, live support have tested everything and all seems ok. Unfortunately timeouts are happening to me regularly still on viewing websites or trying to login to whm or cpanel.
I have to assume that the errors on the vps have been sorted and it is an isp problem, so will wait until tomorrow to see how that pans out.

Thx for your help
Jon

no issues

AVG is quite funny as you cannot find any specific reason why it would create problems for only 3 mailboxes and not for other 7 mailboxes. I've uninstalled AVG from my system for same reason. I tried iolo's antivirus, but had similar problems.

I've had no active Antivirus from last 1 year and there has been no virus on my machine in last 1 year. I simply enable iolo's antivirus once in a month and check if there are any viruses or trojans.

I also do not run antivirus programs on my computer because of all the problems with them, also they slow down my machine. I just run an online virus scan with trend micro once every couple of weeks and I've more or less been fine. I did the same with firewalls aswell. I just use windows built in and things are a lot easier.

I use housecall as well once in a while to double check, but never had any problems with avg, and that goes for speed or anything else. Only people who seem to have problems with AV is people running Norton.
Never seen anyone on any forum who has a bad word for avg. I trust it completely. Of course there are exeptions though
