Hi Optrex - where can I find this new marketing? The VPS page still looks the same to me (384MB and 1GB burst on starter):

Thanks, Tom

Indeed! I asked a question about this in the pre-sales forum as I'm about to sign up. Here's the answer I got yesterday:

I'm really impressed by the pre-sales info and helpfulness I've had from Admins so far. But I think this particular questions needs a clearer answer. Also, is there any difference in burst RAM between an OpenVZ VPS and a Virtuozzo VPS?

Just to clarify what I mean above:
  • Optrex says his VPS now has 512mb RAM (upgraded from 384mb but no burst).
  • Admin says if I ordered a new VPS it will be enabled with burst as advertised

Just for clarity, which will I get if I open a new VPS? And will it be the same if I chose OpenVZ or Virtuozzo?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Tom,

Burstable RAM is never helpful as your basic intention to have Burtstable RAM is to use resources of other VPS's and their intention is quite similar. What we offer with our VPS plans is quite sufficient if you don't run big websites like Microsoft.com on the VPS

We are here to help customers so if you face anny sort of problem with the VPS then we will go to any extent to ensure 100% satisfaction for services that we offer.

Thanks for the reply Admin. I understand the reasons for and limitations of burst RAM (Optrex explains this very clearly earlier in the thread).

Maybe it seems that we're obsessing over something that doesn't make that much difference to day to day operation. But it'd be good for confidence to know which I'd get if I signed up for a plan marketed as '384mb guaranteed 1gb burst'. Will it be:
  • 384mb guaranteed 1gb burst
  • 384mb guaranteed 384mb burst (as Optrex originally had)
  • 512mb guaranteed 512mb burst (as Optrex now has)

Personally, the last option sounds the best to me!

And finally as previously asked, will it make any difference which of the above 3 I get if I choose an OpenVZ or Virtuozzo VPS?

(Sorry to keep asking - I'm not usually such a pain )

It wont make any difference in RAM whether you choose OpenVZ or Virtuozzo. You will get Burstable RAM as advertised on website.

384 MB Dedicated and 1 GB Burstable

Its true the main thing is your guranteed memory and thats what you need to spec for in terms of daily operation of your site. I'm still on the fence in terms of allocation of SLM in this package though.

More importantly for a VPS, is server reliability snd support when you need it and so far, thats been excellent - during my first 8 days anyway (on my old host I'd been offline twice totalling 15 hours by now).

I'll be interested in your thoughts once you take the plunge tom.

Things will further improve for those who will join from next week. Dell has given fantastic offer on "Dual Quad Core Xeon E5420, 2.5GHz, 2 x 6 MB cache, 12 GB RAM, RAID1, hot swappable drives" Servers and this will be our new nodes
