Thumbs down Emails - Bulk

Is there a limit to the number of emails we can send in an our via our hosting accounts - Shared Linux ?

Last night - in the middle of the night so as not to slow anything up too much - I sent an email to all the members of our forum 403 to be precise. I use Group Mail so that each email is personalised to the correct email address and because it can work in the back ground while I do other things. I also use Group Mail as I know sending emails with lots of addresses in bcc etc can be constituted as spam which is why I shelled out on this dedicated newsletter programme.

Over 150 bounced back with the message that "knitone.co.uk had exceeded the maximum number of emails per hour".

I had to manually resend all the bounced back ones via a different email server with a different host - it took me a long time.

This was only a little group - my main newsletter goes out to over 8000 customers once a month. At the moment it is going out via a different hoster but I was hoping next year to bring that hosting here too. If this can't be fixed then I will have to think again about ALL my hosting here.

I'm not sure, if you are using a PHP Form to send the emails through the forum then i don't see a problem.

It's best to let somebody with a more sincere knowledge of this area reply.

Your group mailing program seems to use SMTP based connection which wont allow it to send more than 200 emails per hour. You should switch its mailing preference to local mail server or use some sort of php based mailer.

We have limit of 200 emails per hour for SMTP based emails which can be modified for you if you come on livechat and inform our support team. We cannot make permanent changes in this limits so you will need to contact us to get the changes done for specific time frame.

Not sure what that is or how to do it?

The Group Mail cost a bit and I have just paid for the licence for another year. I have no problem sending them via SMTP through my other hosts mail servers using this program. I assume a "php based mailer" will cost me again and Group Mail will be unused - if that is the case it is not an option. I would rather just cancel the hosting for these accounts here and move it all back to my other hoster.

Are you really prepared to let me send 8000 emails during a couple of hours at night once or twice a month if I let you know in advance?

I'm obviously not spamming or I wouldn't have posted on here - it is an opt in newsletter which some of my customers (I have a database of 17,000) asked to be sent.

There's no cost for php based mailing scripts. You can check phplist which is available in Fantastico. phplist is free and you can install it with few clicks of mouse.

We have no problem with 8,000 newsletters if sent at night.
