I have tried to install Cutecast but it didn't work - that is why I have had to try something else. If you know anything about Cutecast and have the time I wouldn't mind someone having a look. There is a link on craftbits.co.uk/forum.htm page or the actual pl file is craftbits.co.uk/cgi-bin/cutecast/cutecast.pl. There is a similar forum at cpu-enterprises.com/cgi-bin/cutecast/cutecast.pl which does work

I don't mind reposting all the threads but do you know of anyway I could change the times and posters to what they were originally rather than them all have one date on them.

Does anyone have any opinion on what they would perfer if a forum they visitied died - would you prefer the posts to be reinstated or a new empty forum?

got to be honest, i would want my posts, my post count and my profile. I would not want to start again.

I can't load your pl file.

Have a look at the second script on this link below. It may work, it converts cutecast to phpbb apparently.

Um exactly - the pl script won't load but I did nothing different from last time.

But now I have seen the phpbb forum and seen how easy it is to set up with much more features I'm not sure I want to go back.

jon123 - I couldn't see a link - has it been removed?

If I can't get a converter I will probably move all the posts over manually - it's not as if I have anything else to do ......?!?!?!

However if I do, all the dates of posting will be the same - does anyone know how to change the dates on posts to make them look older than they are?

Or how to change which member posted the question? I guess I could log on as each member but that would take even longer. Putting them all on as Admin then changing the poster name after would be easier - but is it possible?

Sorry - rabbiting on again - must get to work - bye

I thought i had put up the link, maybe i didn't....old age!
http://www.niftyutilities.co.uk/cc2phpbb/

The only way to do what you want is by manually inserting the data into the database, rather than the forum. Across many tables also, take you ages.

Ytou should be able to manually insert the members if you have both database info available by copy and pasting their username and encrypted password.
Your best bet though is the comnverter above if it works.

I decided to go with a clean forum and just moved the members across manually but I do have another forum which may have to be moved as it has crashed. So I might use that converter when I can get my head around the instructions !!

My next question (I said I had a few !)
In cpanel under Site Software there is an item called phpMyChat
PHP/MySQL based Chat room.
I tried installing but when I have done and clicked on the link it gives an error. Any Ideas ??

I just found out why there was an error - the link cpanel gives you when you install is wrong. It said that I could find the chat room at mydomain/chat but it was actually at mydomain/chat/chat

I have been playing an 'talking' to my daughters laptop but I don't see how to configure anything - there is no admin link - I looked at the support site and there was an admin link on their tester so I assume it didn't load properly automatically via cpanel.

I would go and ask on 24/7 chat but can't get on. I used to be able to but now it has changed and uses java addon which took ages to download and I have another icon in my system tray for java console and it doesn't' even work. I have had a 'chat' session open for over 1.5 hours and the operator is still playing darts!

Looks like I will have to bend your ear as support just keeps saying there is nothing wrong with the live chat or it is my browsers fault (ie7) which I haven't changed since it used to work before.

I think it would be best to install phpmychat from http://www.phpheaven.net/phpmychat:home
I always install software from the 'makers' site anyway as you will get the latest versions.

Thanks jon123 - it seems a shame that we have to do that as part of the advertised package is all the software.

Never mind - as long its free - just want to check it out.

Does anyone know any better chat software (easier to use) that is free and no adverts?

It is Cassie but I always goto the developers site for any scripts, these include all those in fantastico as well. Not saying anything wrong with those scripts just makes sense to me to get the very latest version, rather than install from cpanel then update it.

I tried a few chat client scripts a while ago, I thought boldchat and phpopenchat were ok. They aren't a patch on real irc chat though as require the browser to refresh to update every few seconds, where irc is real time.
Unfortunately irc takes a huge amout of resources and don't think webhosting would allow using these.

the 2 above are ok though and last time i used them there was only a small link at the bottom but no ads, maybe different now.

jon123 - I had a look at phpopenchat which looks better - boldchat costs!

I downloaded the phpopenchat but it came down as phpopenchat-3.0.2.tar.gz and I can't open a .gz file.

Any ideas?

Default Smf

I've installed three of the SMF forums that are under Fantastico - Very easy to use, lots of features and loads of 3rd party mods.
