Default VPS problem

Hi I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I'll try here anyway - mods feel free to move it.

When I set up my VPS I think I have messed something up.

Everytime I log into my Cpanel I get a message about incorrectly configured DNS. I also get the following email sent to me everyday:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
The hostname (vps4433.webhosting.uk.com) resolves to . It should
resolve to my.vps.ip.address. Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as
the 'A' entry in zone file for the domain.

Some are all of these problems can be caused by
/etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check this file if
you
believe everything else is correct.

You may be able to
automaticly correct this problem by using the ' Add an A entry for
your
hostname ' under ' Dns Functions ' in your Web Host Manager

NOTE: IP Address above masked.

I have tried to add an A entry through Cpanel but is says there is one that already exists using the domain webhosting.uk.com

I would consider myself failry proficient at most things IT related but just don't get this DNS stuff. At my last VPS all I used to have to do is create a domain and then forward that domain name to the IP address of my VPS.

My two sites so far on my VPS work perfectly by just forwarding the domain name to the IP address of my VPS but I still get this message.

When I registered for my VPS I used, for example:

domain1.com as my primary domain name.

Now when setting up my Cpanel for the first time it asked for the hostname.

I just left it as it was, which was:

vps4433.webhosting.uk.com

I now believe I should have chosen something like:

vps.domain1.com

I have an account with DNSMadeEasy which I usually use to point my domains at the ip address of MY VPS. so do I need nameservers etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to open the ticket for this problem. Our vps engineers will add A entry and make it work. Once the hostname of your vps starts resolving then you wont get that popup window again.
It may be best to open a support ticket with your problem, It only took them a few minutes to sort

It seems I had set up my host name incorrectly. Support fixed this promptly.
