Hi,
I signed up for a VPS starter package last night. I have not had much time to get my sites up and running but so far I am very impressed with the VPS. I have another VPS with Webfusion which holds all my main sites and lately I have not been happy with the service. I am therefore looking for somewhere to migrate my sites to. Currently I have only signed up for a month to determine if webhosting.uk is suitable. I would like to know - if at the end of the month I would like to switch to webhosting.uk, is it possible to pay for a year / semi year rather than monthly? And in the future would it be possible to upgrade the VPS package to one of the higher up packages without disruption to my sites, i.e having to go through all the set up process again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ryan. |

Hi Ryan, I can't answer your questions, will leave that to the admin but i will give you a little advise if that's ok.
Being a customer of pipex (webfusion) for a few years and having various hosting accounts, vps and a reseller accounts with them, I am one of those people who have nothing good whatsoever to say about this company. You only have to google pipex to read hundreds of peeps who regard this company with such disdain as I do. The main problem is their support, or lack of should I say. If you have no problems with downtime, slow connections or with your account in general, then everything is great. Unfortunately when you do run into problems you will find no help at all. At least a good 2 months to answer any email support you need. This is no exageration! Send an email to sales and see how long it takes! 2 weeks the last test I did, and this is SALES, imagine how long support takes. As mentioned, as long as you have no problems then pipex is great. One other point, if you do decide in the future to cancel your vps with pipex, you need to give then at least 30 days notice. We are still paying for a pipex account even though it has been over 60 days since i tried to cancel it. Let me tell you what they do: You phone then and tell them you want to cancel, they tell you they will send you an email which you must print out and sign and return to them via fax, once they receive this then it takes 30 days. This email will be sent to you as soon a possible. You wait and wait and wait, no email! You wait 7 days still no email, you phone them and they say "we sent you it". Yeah right! "I will send it again". Well send it now and i will check my email before I put the phone down I then receive it, they tell me to print, sign and FAX it to the number at the top of the email...Guess what? fax number not recognised. I phone them they tell me to post it.......you can guess why I am still waiting can't you! I should have recorded it. What annoys me more than anything, is that this cancellation joke seems common practice, it is happening to loads of people. I don't want to deter you from using pipex. Again, it's great when you have no problems, but just be aware of the problems with cancelling your account if it ever arises. ps. Just to put the above in perspective, there are probably loads of folk who are very happy with pipex hosting, you obviously never hear from these as they have nothing to moan about. Look at the bad press pipex broadband has! I have been a customer of pipex BB for over 4 years and never once has any problem with it. Not a time I can remember when I couldn't connect or slow connection, nothing. That's why i won't move to a MUCH cheaper package with anyone else. My fear is what happens when I do have a problem? At least I know if that happens, the service is going to be as bad as their hosting service, so I shouldn't be too shocked. Sorry rant over |

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Good news about being able to upgrade with no downtime. Regarding the VPS with Webfusion - as you say it is great when it works. I had a terrible experience with lycos VPS, you could not believe how poor the customer support was. I then switched to Webfusion and for months it was an absolute great service and I was very happy with it. But now all my sites are grinding to a halt and my VPS is unreachable for hours every day. Emails go unanswered etc. Once I get all my sites transferred I am definetley cancelling with Webfusion. If they try any funny business I will just cancel my credit card which is used to pay for it each month. There is no way I will allow them to charge me after I have gave them the required amount of cancellation notice. |
