Thanks so much for an amazing 12 months
Just looking back on the threads, this time last year I was the very lucky 2nd prize winner of a " semi dedicated server for a year" in the 2008 competition.
Since then, I've been rather quiet on the Web Hositng UK forum, partly due to a move overseas, but mainly because I've not had a single issue to deal with in terms of my hosting plan - its been an amazing 12 months.
The realiability and stability has been outstanding. I think I've called support once since it was setup and that was during the initial configuration states, but in all other senses its been a case of let everything tick over without a worry. I have never ever been in that position before, but let me tell you its a very nice position to be in.
Unfortuantely now, I need to get back to the reality of being on a plan that meets my budget requirements and that means moving back to a Linux VPS hosting plan. What is the best way for me to arrange getting everything transferred over in the most efficient way please?

Hi Optrex,
Nice to hear that you've had a great experience over the past year.. it's flown by hasn't it?
If you can't afford the semi-dedicated server on it's pricing structure I would recommend going with a VPS if that meets your budget. All data can be transfered over from semi-dedicated server to VPS without any hassle, the only change would be the nameservers that you use.. you would need to add the new IP's.
Web Hosting UK live support will be on hand to assist you with any issues you have during the transfer process

Hi James,
I would have to go back to what I was on before - the VPS starter with CPANEL.

Alright, you can switch back to cPanel VPS Starter plan. You can order the VPS hosting plan from our website, once you make the payment after that you will need to raise a ticket with our VPS department regarding the data transfer from semi-dedicated server to the VPS.
Once the VPS is setup after that we will proceed with the data transfer process. There won't be any downtime during data transfer process. The semi-dedicated server will be live until all your data is transferred on to the VPS and your website starts resolving from the VPS.

Sounds great. I'll put a ticket through, then sit back and relax

I'd also like to say thanks for the free server i has last year. Really appreciated. Unfortunately i never really used it. My intention was to use it to run a flash server ( whixh i did), but then went off the idea.
I did host a couple of sites on there but what a waste of a dedi-server!.
Anyway, thx again.

It's hard to think of a short-term plan to use it for and make good use of it.

It really is, i was going to actually use it to try out live streaming for a pub to see how it would turn out (listeners and bandwidth, etc), but it never really got off the ground.

I won't mind extending the offer for another year.
We've had fantastic contribution from the members who won and we can extend the offer for another year.
Please let me know how you want me to proceed.

Wow Andrew, are you saying another year free? if so what an OFFER! unbelievable!
Really appreciated, it really is. I am obviously very tempted to take up your offer (if i understand you correctly), but I really do need to make sure that I have a plan put together on possible uses for it, otherwise it would just sit there unused.
I do have a 'sort of plan' that i was thinking about that may prove usefull.
Can i get back to you in a couple of days if the offer still stands?
many thx
Jon

Thx, but I don't know about profit.
I'm really just trying to see what will work and to try gain some experience.
if your offer still stands i do have a plan. It is the same as 12 months ago but now with a 'backer'.
Without going into too much detail, I/we will be installing a couple of cams in a building and using the motion detection option we will be recording events. I stilll don't know what software to use but we already have the ip cams so trial and error really.
I am really looking for what software is best, (how much space, bandwidth, etc) and really just to try things out.
So would be great to extend your kind offer if it is still on the table!
If not then not to worry.
thx
jon
