New here and would like to introduce ourselves, we are Merlin Fabrics and have just had a new site developed to sell curtains, ready made and custom made online. We are looking for honest reviews about the structure, layout, usability etc and general look and feel of the site. Please be constructive.

Pros

In general the overall look of the site is clean and inviting. As well as looking clean, it doesn't look overcrowded (just look at how many people use google as a search engine because of it's minimalistic approach). The colour choice in the menu, and each specific area is quite good (kind of like coloured tabs in a folder)

Cons

Personally, the hypertext font colour looks grey on my screen, grey on a white background is a bad contrast of colours imho, and it can sometimes be difficult for people to make out what the text is saying. In relation to this as well, the drop down boxes on the products page also reflect the same, it's difficult to make out the 'any' on the gradient, then again the grey text on a white background when you do click on it. Also in line with this, I've looked at it a few times, on the home page, when the flash first loads, all the text is white, and then when you roll over the specific sections, the others darken, obviously to highlight which one is in focus, though the contrast from the white to pink is a little high, that and the darkened text seems to start blending with the background colour.

Your tips on the rollover hyperlinks also aren't appearing the way you wanted them to either, it looks like html with <strong>alterations</strong> etc..

All in all the site design looks good, though personally I'd spend some time on getting the aesthetics of the colours right. Bear in mind though, I'm no webdesigner, nor is my idea of what I like to see going to be the right choice lol.

Generally it looks fine, there is nothing that would put me off using it but there are a few small issues.

1) When you select a ready made curtain some styles have an overall picture of the curtain and then a small colour sample box

1.1) Some of the colour samples reference non existent images or incorrect images, I only looked at a few curtain styles but this would annoy me as a customer if this was the style I was looking to buy because it is suggests a a certain amount of lack of attention to detail.

1.1a) The Uno in pink is a missing image

1.1.1b) For The Chatsworth only 1 of the four colour selections brings up the correct colour; coffee brings up red, red brings up neutral and neutral is a missing image.

1.2) I would prefer to see the whole curtain in the appropriate colour rather than a small image of the colour.

2) I would like even bigger images of the curtains

3) The page titles show irritating jpeg effects, for me this again creates a slightly slapdash image.

4) I hate "coming soon" pages such as fabrics page.
