Default My first company web design - comments appreciated

Hi;

I'd appreciate any comments on a website I've recently designed, hosted by Webhosting UK, of course:

www.analyzeiq.com

Thanks,
Michael.

I like the design Michael apart from the header. When you click on a link you really don't notice the new page content because of the size of the header. Took me a few seconds to realize i needed to scroll down.

I like the colours and setup though

That's a fair point, particularly depending on screen res, I suppose.

On the other hand, I like the header as I think it serves a useful purpose, though I suppose I could keep it for the front page only.

Michael.

I agree. It's not immediately obvious that anything is actually happening. Even on a 19in widescreen at 1440x900 the header takes up 3/4 of the screen. If you scroll down to read the content you then have to scroll back up again to get to the menu.

Nice design though.

Yep, I agree with the header. Design your site for 1024x768
Also the Analyze IQ Application Areas do not currently go anywhere.
For some reason the image link on the top right opens a new page of the homepage. It doesn't need to do that, and you need to change the alt text from advertisment to logo or something.

On a personal note, I like the use of the images (testtube etc, but then its ruined by the microscope clipart. Replace the clipart for images)

PS your text size for visual impairment is only working on one line of text from what I can see.

Thanks for all the feedback -- you've all been very helpful. I'll have to re-examine the header size.

Good catch! I reworked a template that had a banner ad there.

I understand what you're saying, but that screen/microscope graphic is actually the icon of the software program, so it serves a purpose for us.

That is surprising. May I ask you what browser you're using? I see a difference in font size for all text, including in the menus, header and other areas, when I click on the font buttons. However, it's probably fair to say that the largest font size is not large enough.

Thanks again,
Michael.

Thanks for that, Optrex.

I think the effect of the font size change is most noticeable on that line, because when the font gets larger, it wraps onto a second line. Also, when you mouse-over, it is highlighted and enlarged. In fact, just around when you posted that link, I reworded the caption from "Designed for Mixtures" to "Made for Mixtures" to avoid a line-wrap, because it pushed the last header line ("Fundamentally Different") off the bottom.

With IE7 I see the effect of font-changes under Vista and XP, most obviously when I toggle from smallest font to largest. If you can't see ANY change, there must be some bug. If there is some change but it's minor, maybe I need to revisit font sizes.

I've been tweaking the website in the past hour to reduce the header size. In particular, I've got rid of a caption and moved the login form, because it was increasing the depth of the header area too much. I've more to do, but hopefully what I've done is an improvement.

Again, I am grateful for the feedback -- thank you for taking the time.

Michael.

In response to the feedback, I've updated the website analyzeiq.com

I've reduced the header size, and the main part of it is now on the home page only. I've also increased the size of the large font, though not enormously: any bigger and I'd have to make the header bigger to accommodate the largest-size text.

Any further comments are welcome!
Michael.
