Default Is Yahoo! poised to make a social killing?

This news is from the begining of the month but I just read it so I decided to post it here for you guys to see.

Does Yahoo!'s new social network smack of desperation, or is it the stuff of inspiration? Get a sneak peek at Mash, Yahoo's answer to MySpace and Facebook.

While the internet giant's social networking struggles predated the recent management shakeup, Yahoo is now officially in the MySpace-race.

IMNSHO all this social networking stuff is getting silly. The kind of prices being paid or touted for MySpace, Bebo etc ar ridiculous and in no way represent there actual value. Noone seems to be able to monetize these sites and their user base is extremely fickle, moving from one to another with very little loyalty.

There's a lot of half-baked stuff spouted by people about this being the future of the Web but we will all soon move onto the next big thing in a year or two.

I have not seen mosh in action yet but I heard some serious mischief about this , you can load up friends' pages with awkward background images, text and brash color combinations before they even log in for the first time, you can even edit your friends profile page.

Yahoo! doesn't have any other choice to compete with others in this race.

That's seems true, however if you look the other side you'll find that they've already larger base of Yahoo! Answers community which are available in many countries and languages. In addition Yahoo! 360° members are more likely shifting to mosh, moreover I think they are targeting the users of myspace and facebook that is the reason they are bringing forth such features to make it more attractive and noticeable.
