In my opinion overselling is OK if it's being done carefully and in a right way and with careful planning.

Overselling in webhosting business is bad. It is a lie to the clients. As long as the overselling hosts can get away with it without running into too much hassle, they will continue to push the line a little further until one day the line can be pushed no further.

Overselling-Its all about of selling beyond means of delivery- that give chances to the host providers to abuse it as the webhost providers goes too far from the competition by keeping their prices lowest and fail to keep the promises with their customers.

Everyone will say that overselling is not good but the fact is that many web host's do it without any problems and the good companies get overshadowed by this overselling host.

With the help of overselling these webhosts are able to sell plans at a cheap price and price is a big constraint for many clients as far as hosting business is concerned. So most of the clients won't bother even if their host oversell as long as their sites don't get affected.

Yes, that's true and the clients who don't want there business to be down bcoz of server overloading they should avoid such overselling host and the web hosting company which claims to sell web space at the cost of peanut.

I think overselling is not bad if the host knows their limit.

I'd never recommend an overselling host to anyone bcoz the overselling host sell more bandwidth and space or the other resources to his clients than the host actually have.
