Default UK Webmaster Degree

How one can become a webmaster? What study and courses should be followed ? Is there any degree for it?

If you're in the UK there are a few Unis that do relevant degrees. If it's a job as a designer you want then you are probably better off going for an Arts/Graphic Design degree. For development you might be better off with something like the University of Wales Newport BSc(Hons) in Internet and Multimedia Technologies.

You don't necessarily need a qualification at all but you'll find it much easier to get a job with a design/development studio if you have one.

Best Webdesigners, Developers and System Admins of the Internet world have never gone through any particular University course. Those who start learning from early teenage get to a better position in short time in comparision with those who keep on visiting classes in Universities in their late twenties.

I personally feel that I started working quite late but those who are job oriented may prefer to go for higher education as the Certicates and Degrees of the Universities help you to get a better job.

Not sure I'd agree with the arguement that the best designers etc in the world didn't go to University. people like Eric Meyer, Molly Holzschlag and Dave Shea all have computing/design degrees and David Fried, Chad Hurley and Tom Anderson all have graduate degress of one form or another.

Mind you Bill gates famously doesn't.

To give you an idea there's a small web design/development studio local to me who are looking for staff and they want a BSc (in anything) plus XHTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, XML and DB skills as a minimum. On the plus side the starting salary is 25k+.

Defination of the best webmaster may differ but I certify best designer when I like most of his designs. I've known designers from different parts of the world and some designers from US cannot be challenged.

What sales more is the best according to me. What people like but that doesnt sale is not the best

I too think there is no need of such certification, of cource as it depend upon your level of competence and skills either you want to make a career or start your own business, as ultimately you have to prove your level of competence that must achievable, but should also stretch your knowledge and skills day by day as everyday you'll come across with new technologies in this arena and new challenge as such industries need to upgrade your knowledge and technical skills regularly and innovate new ideas through research and good learning skills.

I suppose it depends on whether you intend working for yourself or not. Obviously if you're reasonably bright you can teach yourself a lot of stuff, and working for yourself means that you automatically qualify for the job.

If you want to work for someone else then yu are probably going to have to prove that you have a certain level of knowledge and one of the ways of doing this is through a degree. And if you're looking for a Web dev position then try and get some experience in ASP.NET (the pay is much better ).

I am greatly influenced by "Rich Dad Poor Dad" the best seller book by Robert Kiyosaki, he writes in the introduction to the book ;

"I had two fathers, a rich one and a poor one. One was highly educated and intelligent; he had a Ph.D and completed four years of undergraduate work in less than two years. He then went on to Stanford University, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University to do his advance studies, all on full financial scholarships. The other father never finished eighth grade.

Both men were successful in their careers, working hard all their lives. Yet one struggled financially all his life. The other would become one of the richest men in Hawaii. One died leaving tens of millions of dollars to his family, charities and his church. The other left bills to be paid."

I know there are few criticism about this book, but still it is great motivational book for many readers.
