Hello,
In the past I always used shared hosting account. Yesterday I signed up for a semi dedicated Linux account. I did this as I want all my sites in one place. I am serioly lost and out of my depth! Linux server admin book on the way. Until then , I need some help. First of all some questions: Now say the domain of my VPS is my-default-domain.com. Where do my www files go? Do I need to create an account for them? When I try to set up an account for my other sites, using this click path: Account Functions >> Create a New Account. What info do for the DNS Settings? What ever I add results in the following error: Account Creation Status: failed (Please setup a nameserver under Server Setup in WHM!!!). I don't see Server Setup link in WHM. does it mean: Service Configuration >> Nameserver Setup. So I try this and get the message "We recommend you do not enable the nameserver unless you are going to use it. If you wish to disable the nameserver you can always turn it off in the Service Manager" I click proceed and and tald that the server is being Activated as well as out put but in never seems to complete. As you can see I have a lot to learn. I know a bit about adminastring Apache, MYSQL and PHP I have them installed on my home linux box. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi,
I think you maybe better contacting live support from the homepage with your nameserver issues. They may have already have been set up. As far as the domain used for your account, that threw me too. Simply create a new account for that domain also, so then you will have your ftp setup so you can upload to it. As far as setting the DNS options when creating a new account, I leave the 2 tick boxes empty, but again I think you need to use live support to sort your nameservers out to begin with. Hope some of that makes sense

Hello Bobble, It wont be easy to explain everything in a single thread but you can go through the flash tutorials from http://www.demodemo.com/tutorials_whm.html to learn how to manage your WHM. You can contact our livechat support as they are trained to guide customers through initial setup process. Flash tutorials would be better if you can spend some time to watch those.

Thanks for the replays. I have now managed to set up an account with the help of live chat.
There's still one big question I have and know one seems to know what I'm going on about; not live chat or the help line. OK so here goes. At the moment I already have a website on a shared host with another company lats call it foo.com. I used foo.com as the name for my new root account in my new semi dedicated server. Before I point the domain foo.com to my new host. I need to have it set with a root web folder. How do I do that. It seems easy to set up an account for another accout say zoo.com but what about foo.com? Please some one know what I'm asking. |

If i understand you correctly it is as i mentioned above. Even though you used the domain name foo.com as the domain to setup your hosting account here, you still need to treat it as a normal account also, so create a new account in whm called foo.com
Or are you saying it won't let you create it? Or do you mean something else entirely?
